Default Long Tube question

on the long tube headers why do they extend so low instead of tucking tight to the bottom of the firewall and making them longer to the rear? i am not exhaust guru so this is why i am asking.

NOPE---because less bend is better flow. If they tucked more, there would be a sharper bend at bottom of tubes.

ok i was just wondering cause i figured if it was done that way there would be better clearance, but like i said i am no exhaust guru just curiosity.
