Default Newbie questions

I'm a converted Pontiac engine guy, so this LS thing is new to me. This is also the first time I have ever had someone build an engine for me and am just checking out his story.

The guy who is building my motor is telling me that he can get 450 to 500 horse at the flywheel out of an LQ4 motor @ 10:1 compression with 317 heads, a cam, reprogramming and long tube headers.

Does this seem realistic? Seems like a big increase with minimal work to me?

Not unreasonable, depending on the camshaft and intake manifold used. There are guys on here putting 400 to the wheels with a cam only. That would probably be around 450 at the flywheel. It is realistic

Thanks for the confirmation guys. If it is truly that easy to make such large power gains, I guess I was just wasting my time (and lottsa dough) with traditional pontiac engines in the past. lol
