I thought we learned the right hand rule in dynamics.
Sorry, man. Maybe it was Dynamics, but that was many beers ago...

Fulton... would it not also have quite a bit to do with the torque applied by the rotating engine on the mounts? Say if you punch it and have a sudden, large application of torque to the engine in the counter-clockwise direction (from the driver's view) the opposing force of the non-rotating mass of the engine would be in the clockwise direction, and apply force accordingly. From what I understand, this is also what causes the phenomenon of lifting one front tire higher than the other (which I THINK should be the left one... can't say for sure... my car is weak )

My head hurts. Reading this thread induced a Penn State flashback! This is precisely why I have an engineering degree, yet work as a cop!

There's no way to separate one from the other, grasshopper.
Torque is the rate at which horsepower is applied at a given rpm-expressed in lb/ft.

let me simplify all these great answers for you.....
1. Torque is what pins you back
2. HP is the measurement of how much work the Torque does over time and distance
3. It always pulls to the right because of the direction the engine spins...the torque is thrown that way(again the thumb thing relates to the ground)
4. you should check out more explination on www.howstuffworks.com there is a lot of simple explination of all this technical crap that you really dont need to know but is nice to know about...
