how do you determine whether a ss has the 345hp or 325hp engine? is the 345hp a SLP option or whats the deal?

This isn't the answer you're looking for, but an LS1 is an LS1. They make the same power (true, newer years run stronger). The whole 345hp thing is a marketing ploy basically. LS1's are underrated from the factory anyway. The only differences in those packages are a lid and a better flowing exhaust I believe.

What unit said. The only difference in engine performance is the LID and Exhaust...which are still restrictive and people end up swapping them out. 01-02 LS1's have the LS6 intake and make around 10-15 more RWHP than a 98-00. I have gotten in A LOT of arguments with people that think a stock Z28 has 310HP only...but o well. an LS1 is an LS1

Yes it s so true, and hard for people to grasp at that. The LS1 in the SS is the same LS1 in the Z28, the same as the Trans Am and yes, the same as the corvette. However, I do believe the Vette motor make a wee but more thanks to better exhaust, and intake, but like Unit said, put on a new catback, new lid, bam! over 345+ to the crank. The Z28 and the SS hang together like glue. If they are both running the same exhaust gear ratios, and tranny type they are the same performing cars. Same goes for the Formula/TA/WS6.(That is SOCK LS1 CARS) An LS1 is an LS1.

the 345 SS cars have the center mount exhaust. and the 345 SS is basicly the same as the Firehawk. But its nothing but exhaust and everbody changes that and the lid anyways so i dont see a point in really getting it unless your gona keep it mainly stock.

People are so close minded. I've gottne into a lot of arguements over the difference between and SS and a Z28. They think an SS is so much faster than a Z28. They think 325 HP is EXACTLY what an SS has and 310 is EXACTLY what a Z28 has. They ask me if I can beat a Vette and I say yes. The they think I have some extremely fast, no one can touch me street car. An LS1 is an LS1.

Sorry for the life story, but it just pisses me off sometimes and probably as well as most of you.
