Default The correct way to use the Ram Air peice

I was browsing some forums and read something about the FTRA piece. I read that you're supposed to block off the front of the air box so that it sucks just from the ram air part. Is this how it's supposed to be? How is this better than leaving the front open...seems like sucking air from two places would be better than one.

The thing is, if you have the blockoff plate in the forced air will have to go through the filter. W/o it, the air would go out the front of the box

how? isnt the engine constantly sucking? It wouldn't suck from the front of the lid as well?

In order for a 'ramming effect' to occur, it must have a sealed box. Otherwise, when the air is being 'rammed' it will go out the front of the air box. The 'ramming effect' happens when you push air in faster than the engine can suck.

Well, as suggested by someone on another forum, I used duct tape. Can't imagine why this wouldn't work, though i haven't driven the car yet.

It makes sense that you need to block off the front but I know from experience that even if you don't have the front blocked off my filter gets really dirty, if the front is blocked I can only imagine how fast it would get dirty. By the way, does anyone have anything done to the bottom of the car where the air comes up to keep bugs and large dirt particles from getting sucked up? A screen or something?

FTRA is one of the best mods I've done and is easily worth an additional 15 hp over a lid. Ram air has a mild supercharging effect and you will really feel the car pulling harder and harder the faster you go.

In my experience the FTRA doesn't dirty the filter any faster than my cold air SS hood.
