[QUOTE=blue98Z;14345992]Cold, that T/A has been there awhile which makes me wonder what kind of condition it's actually in.
I haven't driven the car, but I stopped and took a look at it. Its a '01 with 6 speed, 150,000 miles, and looks fairly unmolested. The interior is pretty clean and he's asking $9000. I was thinking about saving some miles on my TA but I know that one would just become another money pit for me.

For all of you local guys tired of being harrassed about your exhaust, I won another small victory today in a local court system. Once again Louisiana's modified exhaust law goes down in flames. Do not allow uninformed police officers to run over you... this law is BS until there is an actual threshhold established. I simply asked the DA how I would know when my car was quiet enough, he said he couldn't tell me, and then dropped charges. This approach wouldn't work if you just hacked off your mufflers, however, if you have a decent and functional exhaust you can win. This was my second time to win against the same charge in different parishes. Both times, the initial stop was for my window tint which passed when tested by the meter. Maybe the state popo could find someone actually committing a crime and bother them for a while, lol.

LRS (Louisiana Revised Statute) 32:352 Mufflers; requirements; prevention of excessive noise, fumes and smoke reads: A. Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise.
B. No person shall use a muffler cut-out, bypass or similar device upon a motor vehicle on a highway of this state.
C. The engine and power mechanism of every motor vehicle shall be so equipped and adjusted as to preent the escape of excessive fumes and smoke.
LRS 32:353 Modification of Exhaust reads: No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of such vehicle, above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle and the original muffler shall comply with all of the requirements of R.S. 32:352.
In all actuality you should have lost cause let's be honest, none of our cars fit the second one, but one thing to remember is alot of DA's arent fans of troopers and tend to take care of their local guys more. Another is they also may think its a bs law and dont care to prosecute and all it took was for you to stand against it. Also, they look at the initial stop and believe it or not DA's dont really like nitpicking charges. They'll throw them out in a heartbeat. Not to mention that they're only getting maybe $35 of that ticket. They dont care when they have 15 dope heads they're about to make $100 a pop each month for atleast a year. So getting you out of the way is just one step closer to ending the day faster.
Also, a trooper will write anything and everything. Their job is to enforce traffic laws. THAT'S IT. They don't do anything that your local guys do. It's fairly easy to beat a trooper in court most of the time unless it's a DWI, but that's a different subject. Your local LEO's will usually win hands down. So once again I'm not siding I'm just making everyone aware that you CAN lose. Depending on the factors that initiate the stop and of course I've just layed out the two laws that regulate and trust me my car and your car is illegal. Just depends on the Jurisdiction.

Special thanks to Steve for swapping in my new gears.
Now all the ol' girl needs is a little paint to be done. Mechanically, Dorothy's DONE. I don't care if she runs 14's. Not another dollar on anything that's not maintenance or repairing something that I broke.

Josh, that's why I included this little disclaimer. Also, the judge agreed in the first case when I asked him how my exhaust could amplify anything. It may do less to reduce the noise but it can't amplify the noise. The law is just very poorly written. The trooper was a moron... the statute he wrote down did not exist. As I was saying, you can win... just stand up for yourself. If the DA won't prosecute, then he also agrees that the law is BS as written. All I'm saying is the best way for a state or municipality to enforce any noise ordinance is with legislation that specifies a sound threshhold. Letting an officer decide at his discretion what is "too loud" is like saying there are no speed limits, but if an officer "feels" like you are going too fast then its illegal.
BTW, my first victory over this law was in Bossier City court against one of Bossier's finest. I'll just let that speak for where this law stands in the courts.

Yeah, I guess its a little loud. I'm ready to ride whenever you are. How's your car coming? Stop by my office and take me for a ride as soon as she's running and then we can make a track day in the near future.
