The torque converter wont have any problems. The trans may not like the added power tho. Some have luck with them some dont.
With the stock converter a progressive controller would be a great idea. Would help with traction as well as provide a TPS switch ( Throttle position sensor - Only allows the system to spray at WOT) and a window switch ( A must on your setup ).
Dont forget to make sure the rest of your tune up is ready as well. (Plugs timing etc. )

When I have it tuned after I install can I prolong my tranny by changing shift points and line pressure for firmer shifts? Also is it possible to have a nitrous tune and a na tune with a handheld programer or would I need hp tuner or equivalent tunning program?

The tune will help tranny life. But remember you are pushing a stock part to the limit. A good cooler would help. But these measures are prolonging not saving.
You will have to get with your tuner about that part of it. He should be to handle it.

The converter wont be the problem but if you spray through the shifts then you will be looking to get a rebuild pretty quick. Other than that it should be ok if you turn the nitrous off before the shift ( Ie.. using a window switch ). We have customers that are spraying on 100,000 - 120,000 mile trannys and they have held and we have had some spray on 80,000 mile tranny and smoke them. It's really hard to giev a 100% correct answer to your question. It will really depend on how much abuse the tranny has seen in it's day.

A window switch sets a beginning and ending rpm limit for the nitrous to activate and deactivate. Normally you have the window switch come in no earlier than 3000 rpms and cut off at least 100 to 200 rpms before you or the car makes the shfit.
