Carb'd 5.3 on Spray I posted this video in the conversions section, but figured you guys would like to see it too. This is a stock bottom end 5.3 with ported 243 heads, a cam similar to an MS3, and carbureted with an Edelbrock plate kit. The first two passes were on a 150 shot, going 10.07-10.08. The last two passes were on a 175 shot going 9.87 or so. It still had more left in it with some carb and plate tuning, but we never got around to it. The 60's were, I believe, a high 1.3x at best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZlO0L57ZuU Average weight Mustang. Fiberglass hood and tubular suspension were the only real weight-loss mods done. Full interior with a fat kid driving. |
Car moves out! Good stuff. |
Nice numbers |

He was able to footbrake it to 28-3000, and then it would flash to whatever when the kit turned on. 3.73 rear gear. 60's were pretty weak. With a transbrake set up to spray the kit as soon as he let go of the button, it might have picked up a little bit. |
Wow,Is this on a pump gas(93 octane)tune?Does it get street driven? |
I think he had a mix of 93/110 in the big fuel cell, and straight 110 in the nitrous kit stand-alone cell. Although, it'll cruise around on straight 93 with no problems whatsoever. It has open headers right now, so it doesn't get street driven as much as it should...But yes, it does cruise on the street. It's really a mild setup...Ported 243 heads and basically a Magic Stick 3 cam with a carb. Nothing really crazy about the setup at all. It was the first car he's ever built and raced. Prior to the passes in this video, he probably made 5 motor passes and 1 nitrous pass. |
That's a good combination you have... |
Good runs! That third gen looks familiar |
Any engine pictures? |
love it |
What's even cooler is finally opening the motor up and finding that quite a few of the rockers loosened up because he forgot to lock tite them. Oh....and it was on 7 cylinders. http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...78263776_n.jpg Fuel in the intake runner still: http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...76670331_n.jpg |

He knew it was only on 7 cylinders when he tried going back to the track a week or two ago...But we thought it was a problem with the coil or the MSD box. Either way, no major damage besides the stem of a valve getting beat up. |
got any updates? |
Whats up Dave! Car runs good, should be a nice race for my junk when its all done. SAme with Charlies camaro judging by that vid. You guy scooted around him pretty easy. lol |
Those are good numbers. Have you made any passes on the motor alone? |
Good running car. I like these budget builds. What were the 1/8 mile numbers |
Subscribed. One of the most impressive cars on the site with those numbers. Most of the fox bodies in the 9s are doing that with a 6.0. |
