Default How much timing are you running?

I was just curious what other people doing with their timing?

I am jetted for a 200 shot on a plate with a 12.25:1 383 ls1. I'm in Florida and running 93 octane. I have NGK B8EFS plugs and run 23 degrees timing. My plugs look perfect. I'm gonna try 24 degrees next time out.

I have a friend that was spraying 200 through a nozzle on a cam and bolt on lq9, in a truck on 93 with ngk 7's on 25 degrees with no problems for over 6 months.

Another friend was spraying 300 through a nozzle on a cam and bolt on ls1 in a camaro on 93 with ngk 6's at 21 degrees for 2 years with no problems before he wrecked the car.

damn a 300 shot is insane. I would love to sit in a car that sprays that much just to see how it feels when it kicks in, lol. At a 125 wet shot it puts a smile on my face everytime, now im at a 150 shot.

I've got my direct port jetted for 400. I haven't tried it yet though. I want to get everything I can on the 200 first.

Seems like way to much timing, I would like to see a picture of these "perfect" plugs.

I just read this again. Note, you can spray 1000hp of nitrous, but your solenoid and line might limit you to 150hp. Not saying yours is the case, but something to consider.

Seems a lil high to me, but every combo is different I guess. I run 18 degrees with a 24/20 tune 5psi fuel in the fogger on a tight quench 12:1 370ci with VP110 fuel.

What nozzle? noid and are you running through a 4an or 6an line?

300 seems like a stretch on a single nozzle.

post pics of these perfect plugs

This x1000.

I have been seeing lately that the general answer when someone asks if said person has pulled and checked the plugs to be "they look perfect".

I wonder if those that said this know how hard it is to get a plug to look perfect. It sure as hell don't happen after one or two passes at the jetting the jetting card says.

I would have someone that has been around nitrous for a long time read your plugs to make sure you are ok before adding any timing especially on pump gas.

20* on a 450 shot. (Mozez head with the right cam)
#11 plugs C23 fuel

Our old motor same jetting would only take 8-9* same plugs and fuel.

Been running N20 for a long time and have seen MANY plugs, the only perfect ones I've seen are when they come out of the box.

26* on a 150 shot. N/A tune was 28* lol. Funny thing is, ATV wanted me to add more!!!!

Lesson I learned is, the motor wants what it wants. No 2 motors are the same.

Its a stock internal bolt on car btw

I ran stock timing for years on a 150 shot, car loved it...stock heads/cam and then with an LS6 cam as well.

The really tough part is finding the limit, since crossing the limit with a big shot is often disastrous.

Sorry in advance for the thread hijack, but I have a similar timing questions, only on an LT1. Bryan Herter did my dyno tune last year and I'm running 38* of timing NA. I just built a new forged shortblock for nitrous and I'm bumping the compression to about 11.5-1 (and of course a new tune). I know LSX engines don't need as much timing advance to make the power, but will I be safe backing my timing down in the recommended 2 degree increments for each 50 shot up to 150 with my timing already so high?

Do the chamber's on your heads have softening work done? I'm thinking about running VP113 or Q16. Do you think more power can be made with an oxygenated fuel with nitrous?

Certainly.

The motor wants what the motor wants and LT1's are very close to what a sbc would like n/a wise.

Excellent. I had been wondering about that recently. This is going to be one exciting racing season.

I've been using nitrous for about 5 years and have a few friends with promods and other very fast nitrous cars. I do have some experience. I'm running -6 lines with NX Lightning solenoids (500hp capable) on my direct port, with a stand alone fuel system with c16 in it. I spray my 200 through a Nitrous Outlet plate with Harris solenoids (500hp capable). I forget what size fuel jet I ended up running (I think 2-3 sizes smaller than the card) and whatever they put on the card for a 200 shot.

I think you guys took me to seriously on the perfect plugs thing. I just meant no signs of detonation.

Nice to see what some other people are doing though.
