427 into the 9's? Nitrous Question

How big a nitrous shot would I need to get my 3400 pound Camaro into the 9s? Background on the motor:
1. 427 aluminum block
2. Lunati rods
3. Forged Crank
4. AFR 225 heads
5. TREX Cam
6. TCI SSF 4400 Converter
7. 9" rearend with 3.73 gears.
8. Pacesetter L/Ts. (Soon to be Edelbrock Headers)
9. 42# injectors
10. Diamond Pistons
11. 10.5:1 Compression
12. NX MAF Kit

Engine is not installed yet. I have a Mustang over here in Germany running close to the 9s and I need to take the title back over to the F-body side.

im going to say your converter may need to be tightend up a tad to work better on the spray. maybe to 4000-3800 IMO
im also going to say, you need much suspention mods and tires ect. without this, 2,000 hp may not get you into the 9's.
on the motor you have with about a 200 shot with all god stuff, and traction, im guessing you could run well into the 9's

Thanks for the info. I have QA1s on the front. I am in Iraq right now and I have bought alot for the suspension. BMR torque arm and LCA, and KB SFC. I will be using a 28" E/T drag. I know you don't shoot straight from the 11s to 9s. I am just trying to figure out if the combo would go 9s. I am not new to drag racing but i am new to the 4th Gen Camaro suspension setup.

150-200 sounds about right if u have traction,

as long as you do it correct you car should have potential for 9's.
maybe befor you race ask someone for a quick rundown on setups.
and i would also look into a delay box and a rear sway bar. it helps alot.

How is a delay box going to help hm reach 9's?

i'd also say 150-200. What kind of 427 block is that? Wet sleves dont like a ton of spray from what i've read (>300 shot)

It is an LS1 block out of a Firehawk. It has (don't laugh) Volvo diesel engine sleeves that were glued in. The block was done at a machine shop in Germany. The guy that did the work swears that it will be stronger than the stock ones. He froze the sleeves, applied glue, and then pressed them in. He honed them. He mic'd the pistons before he honed. He seemed to know what he was doing. He also did another LS6 engine sleeve that melted on a bad nitrous pass. I got it up and running before I left to come back to Iraq and it is stong. It was the test block before the decision was made on the 427. I did have to grind a little out of the bottom of the sleeve because it was longer than the stock one and the rods were hitting it. We do what we can over in Germany.

i'd say a 150-200 shot should easily put you in the nines if you can get decent traction.

My 6.0 Ltr iron block 408 CID stroker went 9.23@149.1 on a 1.32 60ft on a 300 shot.

With good traction your should mid deep in the 10's on motor alone. I would think 100 or 150 should get you in the 9's

tektrans Jul 30, 2005 07:19 AM

I'd say about a 150 shot will get you in. Depending on traction.

NXZ28 Jul 30, 2005 11:02 AM

Thanks on the suggestions. I will start at 100 and work my way up. Of course, I do have to solve the traction problems. I think the bar has been set too high for me right now. A 10 second pass would thrill me at this point. The car is going to require some major building to get it to the 9s. I just don't have the resources to perform these mods in Germany. I am due back in the states next year and then it is time to get serious.

I go high 10's on motor alone. 3850 pounds.. 427

Well, a 427 LS1 motor running 11:1 c/r with a good cam makes around 550 rwhp, so it will not need much N2O to run 9s, maybe a 100 shot max.

427 f-body n/a pass set up for nitrous 10.58 93 octane. It won't take much.

NXJeremy Aug 3, 2005 10:45 AM

I would say 150-200, traction permitting.
