9's with a stock motor

Lets say you bought a $2500 forged bottom end, could you run 9's with just nitrous and stock cubes + stock h/c?? All bolt-ons could be used. No more than 150lbs. of weight reduction.

Could it be done...how much nitrous....would it last?

probably with a big enough shot, may get you a few 9 passes. 9's is asking a lot from a stock H/C and stock cube motor.

Stock cube, yes. Stock h/c, I doubt it. Only way, would be to make it weigh 2900lbs, be forged and tuned for a 300 shot. Like brad8266 said, maybe a few passes, but not many before :bomb:

Oh, by the way, after being forged, the engine would no longer be considered "stock".

If you are getting a forged bottom end, why not get a nice cam while the motor is out?

I was just throwin' out a hypothetical, wondering if anyone had done it. I imagine that with a cam it would be more than doable.

Why would the motor let go because of stock heads/cam? Haven't people ran 300 shots with heads that flow even less than stock ls1 heads?

brad8266 Nov 13, 2005 04:38 PM

Yeah you can run the shot, but without the H/C 9's will just be harder to get to. With H/C 9's will be way more attainable.

346's runs 9's on the motor, but not with stock heads and cam. You will have to do a lot more than a forged short block.

What is it that keeps stock heads and cam from going 9's??? Is the nitrous not as efficent or something?

brad8266 Nov 13, 2005 08:14 PM

stock heads dont flow that great and the stock cam doesnt have high lift or enough duration to support higher HP airflow

brad8266 Nov 14, 2005 09:55 PM

well there is a vid in this forum now with a stock bottom end WS6 running 9's, it does have H/C and a direct bport though, car is sick and driven on street.

Yes I believe it is possible...

With the stock longblock on a 200 I went a 10.28 @ 129 in the dead heat of the summer....at a raceweight of 3400lbs.

So with a forged bottom end and another 50 with some negative DA I'd say that it is very possible - especially with some weight reduction...but someone else will have to see as I have changed to a cam only setup. :drive:

That's awesome man.....I wish someone would try that with a 250 shot. Considering many people have gone 11's with bolt ons, add a 200-250 hit and it should be 9's or very close.

yes but people start to lift the heads at 300+

JustAnIlluzion Nov 15, 2005 04:35 AM

all bolt ons? that include a blower? heh

GrannySShifting Nov 15, 2005 10:17 AM

could definitely do it with the right cam and a decent bottom end. ATVRacers car is 3500 lbs and first time out with new cam it went 9.73s. take the heads off and should still be around a 9.9999
