What about the inductive kick on these solinoids? I dont see anyone putting flyback diodes/inductive quenching diodes accross the coils.

16ga. will be more than sufficient for those solenoids
sizing them by current is not necessary because they are used for short bursts
if you wanted to look at sustained current on them you would be using 10ga. most likely.

The ice man solenoids pull 28 amps for nitrous and 3 1/2 for fuel.
Thanks

I had a 16ga. wire literally melt and almost catch on fire, so for safety I put in all 10ga wire. Overkill?? Maybe, but it's extra wire laying around so it can't hurt (especially at the close to 30amps they pull).

Uuuuh how many solenoids did you have on one 16ga. wire?
and how long of a run was it?

your relay should be mounted as close to the solenoid/s as possible and it sounds like maybe your main feed wire was way too small.

maybe for specifics I should say wires from the relay to the solenoids(each)
should be 16ga.,main feed should be 12ga.

even 10ga DC will be close for sustaining 30 amps,AC you only need 12ga.

I'm talking about the main feed wire, nothing else

that is pretty funny 16 for a main

10ga is what I would recommend for a main feed if you want overkill 8ga

it wasn't so bad for the NOS noid that pulled 3 amps that's why it was there, and I didn't even think about the noid pulling 10x more amperage when I installed the iceman solenoid

Nitrous pulls 28 or so, fuel is 3.5. 12 ga.wire on any main load wires. and 18ga on control wires.

really? 28 amps? that's kinda huge. granted, i'm used to small n2o noids pulling 5-7 amps.

I don’t dought you, but god that seems high, I have 12 AWG so I'm thinking I should be fine for intermittent duty. With 10 AWG I can run all day long on 31.5 Amp’s, but I shouldn’t need that. Thanks for the replies, everyone.
