Daily Driver Bottle Question

ok guys do you leave your bottle in your daily driver????

do you worry about the bottle in the summer heat?????

im concerned about the bottle pressure and summer heat as the car will be outside in a parking lot

CAT3 05-25-2006 09:24 PM

I have and am currently now. I've left the bottle in the car, valve closed since April 1st, when our track closed. Pressure that night was 895psi. Pressure right now is 1340psi, but wont blow the burst disc, and empty out the blowoff tubing until 3,000psi +/- I live in Hawaii with sun beating on my car daily. I would worry if the bottle was full, or I didnt have a blowoff fitting and tube. I used to leave the valve open, but read where ppl had issues leading them to think the constant pressure sitting on the noid was causing it.

thanks my bottle wont be empty

i have the blow down tube so im not to worried if it does blow but i really dont want it to happen, if ya know what i mean, i dont need people running into my office yelling there is smoke(nos cloud) coming out of your car :jest: :barf:

Yes I have and currently do. Right now dual 15lb'ers, but never seen over 1500psi, but I do use bottle blankets and believe they help to keep heat out.

FWIW, the temps in Hawaii hover about 88* during the summer..and yes sun beats down on my car all day everyday. No garage, just an open parking stall. Wanted to throw that in for consideration.

Yes, you need to watch the pressure. But, I live here in Houston, and back when I had my Lightning, I had two chrome bottles in the bed, no cover and I never had a problem.

chris.shea 05-26-2006 04:05 AM

mine has seen a high of 1300psi while i was looking. black car in direct sunlight while us vette guys ate lunch. im assuming if i leave the windows fully up it may peak 1500 but i dont worry.

FWIW, I had just come home from refilling my bottle, took it out of my truck and set it on the driveway. I brought the rest of the stuff inside, and one thing led to another, needless to say, I forgot to put my bottle back in my car. About an hour later my 8 year old son was outside shooting hoops when the bottle overpressured and vented (3000 psi disc). Scared the piss right out of him. My car is black and my bottle is black, and it has never been a problem before, but I will be a lot more careful from now on.

damn, after that i bet he was shooting poops!!!! instead of shooting hoops. i have seen only 1 bottle blow the burst disc, same thing, sitting out in the sun on the groung except it didnt have a blow down tube. so when it blew it made the bottle fall over and start spinning like crazy on the ground, luckily it didnt hit anything.

In FL summers I have seen my pressure get as high as ~1400 psi by leaving it in the car. If I plan on going to the track I'll leave it it, but if not I just pull it out of the car, I don;t want to risk anything (plus I dont spray on the street -> bottle is in the back and I have no remote opener).

Texas heat and humidity can be a killer.

Thanks for 'schooling' me as well guys. I appreciate the info from you guys that have 'seen it all'...

I was wondering about this exact topic.

iamsickofitall 05-26-2006 05:26 PM

my question is - are you guys seeing these pressures with the windows up & bottle out in the open?

Reject 05-26-2006 05:46 PM

i take mine out for texas weather goes up to 99ish no 100's yet taht i can remember but heat index taht ontop and you see what it feels like. but anyways i just take mine out, no real reason for me to have it on the street. no street racing here....so no need for juice.

brad8266 05-26-2006 06:50 PM

I keep mine in all the time with the windows always up when parked. Its hot as hell here too. Pressure does way up but the disc isnt supposed to blow till 3000 which i am nowhere near. And if it ever does blow, it will just blow out through the floor and under the car, no biggie.

I have found that covering the bottle with a blanket to keep direct sunlight off of it help a lot.

DynotuneN2O 05-26-2006 09:53 PM

We agree, direct sun is an issue.....Keep the sun off and all is good ;) unless you live where vin from 860 lives and it just rains all the time, im sure thats why vin created such a nice heater kit for himself :)
