Default anti ballooning plate?

not sure if this is the right forum, but I just wanted to know at what size shot will I need aTCverter with anti balloning plates?Or is it the total HPlevel that determines it?Right now I have TR224/112 cam ,ls6intake,portedtb,lid,slpmaf,LThedders,Dynomouth ,and a TCI3400-3800verter.I was thinkink of doing a 100 or 125 shot on the mods I have do I need to swap to a diff.TCverter with antiballooning plates or will Ibe O.K.?Ive seen people spraying with a 100 shot on the stock stall, but was wondering with the additional mods I have I was not sure.
thanks
john

John, doesnt your TCI have ABP's already? I thought all TCI's had them....if not, yes I would recommend you getting a TC with them. ABP's prevent the flexing off the front plate, which in turns keep things all in good harmony.

Sure you can do it. I'm by no means liable for it, but again, I would recommend you consider getting TC with an ABP.

Im looking to get afullybuilt tranny here real soon to handle the extra HP.Can they add an ABP to the existing TC or will I have to just get anew TC?What about a75 shot with the TC I have now will that still be too big?and if it can will I notice a 75 shot(I know I would not even notice a 50)?

My converter has one but I personally don't think its necessary until your spraying 250hp or more.

I got a Fuddle with the ABP and it works great. I would not risk spraying over 150 on the TCI converter.

So do you guys think it will handle a100 shot? Is it the total HP level that determines the need for ABP or is it the size of just the N2O shot that determines it?Because I was gonna add the nitrous at the same time I put in the new trans.

If I were you, I would get one with the ABP. Your TCI will handle the 100 shot. It only takes one failure though, to take out your tranny and possibly the engine. Better safe than sorry.

I dont know alot about them but I have a TCI 3500 10" in my old 383 vette and I dont think it cost much extra for the ABP but I sprung for it because I knew I'd wanna put it on the gas eventually.

ok man when you put a 100HP shot of nos on your car that is 100hp to the wheels not at the crank, but the ABP is to keep the torque converter from getting thrown out of whack when the extra HP from the NOS hits it from out of nowhere and the plate keeps the TC from ballooning(<not for sure of spelling LOL) and tearing the insides of your tranny up.

could a rep. tranny builder add it to my TC or will it have to be sent out to TCI? Im not too familiar with ABP's I did not know what it was till I started looking at N20.Originally I was gonna just ad heads (which iwill do),but just wanted that extra 75-100 shot on top of the heads and cam to keep up with the FI guys.

Get the better converter because you WILL be spraying more and the abp
will keep the converter together on the hit and keep you from destroying the NEW tranny .

Its the hit that will kill it .

Gota keep in mind the torque of nitrous .

It may only be a 100 shot but the torque is going to be 150 easy .

My car made 220 rwtq on a 100 shot of nitrous.

The torque is what kills the converters , not the horse power.
