do's and don'ts with nitrous.

I just bought the Nitrous Express Maf kit and purge. I am new when it comes to using nitrous, so i could use any advice.

DO: take your time doing the wiring and placing everything out. Don't be in a rush to install everything. If you get stuck on the wiring part, don't hesitate and ask questions.

Don't: halfass your install. Having a ghetto looking install is only asking for trouble.

This is for the install, I just went through this. I hope to be spraying soon.

Do use lots and lots of it

Dont blow up your motor.

becareful of spraying to low a window switch should be used.

On the last page (or so) of the "Nitrous Basics" I made a little "Do's and Don'ts" when it comes to wiring.
There are seldom any problems with the mechanical installations. (assuming you're not a gorilla and have basic wrenching skills). It's always the electrical that causes problems. Take a minute and read it. It (hopefully) will save you many hours of diagnosing and countless bottles of aspirin.

There is some good info in that nitrous basics area. Do lots of searches and educate yourself before using nitrous. The majority of problems people have with nitrous stems from not knowing what they are doing.

Take your time, read the instructions, and plan/read ahead before you install something. Make sure the measurements are good on everything, that way you don't run into any half ass rigging halfway through the install. I recommend a full hardware mock-up before you bolt anything down, that way you can adjust things if you don't have a long enough line, etc

Don't rush the install. I'm doing my install in two parts; electrical and hardware. I'd suggest doing something similar, that way you have a clear head when starting the second half

I highly recommend testing your connections as you go along. A home-made test light comes in very useful for this! You'll save a huge headache if you do this. It royally sucks to install an arming switch, push button, fpss, WOT switch, window switch, etc...and then the solenoid won't click on when it should be. It's a lot easier to narrow down the problem if you don't do everything at once and skip testing

Don't skimp on safety devices! They are well worth the money!

Don't over-torque the hardware. They need to be tight and secure, but not TOO tight and secure :)

Thanks for the advice. Anymore?

Do get a nice big nitrous filter.

cyipher Aug 29, 2007 10:36 AM

DON'T forget to remove your schrader valve (wet shot only)

cyipher Aug 29, 2007 10:37 AM

Also one thing i dont see in you list of mods is a fuel pump... so DO get a fuel pump

silverbandit0996 Aug 29, 2007 11:32 AM

what fitting fits the fuel rail?

JL ws-6 Aug 29, 2007 11:39 AM

-4AN goes off the end of the stock rail.

As for things to do and not do...

Do make sure that you have the car tuned for the biggest shot you will run, and don't think that because a plate/maf/single nozzle CAN spray 200, or 250 or whatever that it is safe... anything over 150 should be done via a directport, the intake will not evenly distribute the nitrous like a DP will

Do i need a fuel pump? How hard is it to install?

onoiocoko Aug 29, 2007 01:48 PM

what about the schrader valve? im about to do a wet kit. isn't it just the cap that unscrews off of the end of the fuel rail? is there a way to leave it on after you hook up the fuel line?

you take the plastic cap off, then on the inside if the fuel rail there is a valve stem that needs to be removed (using a tire valve core remover), then screw your -4an fitting to the rail.

for saftey i reccomend a fuel pump, even morse so if you have heads and cam. as for the install there is 2 ways of doing it, back door mod or dropping the tank. i prefer dropping of the tank.

lee20ss00 Aug 30, 2007 02:46 PM
