anyone running ngk tr-7's?

im running tr6's now set at .040.
scr is 11.5:1 and dcr is 8.5:1. 150 wet shot. car sees some kr on the street but none on the dyno. just thinking about everything before i take it apart.

Yes, I have them in my car currently.

do u have any iput on them or think i would need them?

Bigger shots can have a tendency to turn the projected tip tr6s into blow torches if any of a few parameters get out of whack. The 7s are a colder recessed tip and more forgiving in a high cylinder pressure arena, imo.

I plan on running them next year. I put about 7 runs on a 200 and about 10 150 shot runs on TR6's before I changed them. They looked great. So, to piggyback off of Robert, if you have a solid tune, a 200 shot is about the ceiling for the TR6.

I'm running a #8 on motor, and a #9 on nitrous, both gapped at 35 I think on the street the #9's would foul out easy, but the #8's have been very good.

I am running a good bit more compression though at 13.5 to 1 static, and the dcr is way up there as well. Torco 116 n/a fuel, torco 118 Nos blend for nitrous.

Good point to clarify on the 200 ceiling, as I agree. The first time I had problems with TR6s, after a few hundred passes, was when going over a 250 shot.

What size hit you doing? I also run the 116, but VP, and straight up on the spray. Though, my timing is set for 14° on the 300 hit.

150 shot thru a Nos plate. Timing is pretty low but for some reason my car's never really liked alot of timing, the n/a tune I had in it all season was only at 20, we had it up more but it didn't make any more power so it wasn't worth it.

I run the 118 fuel because it's just added safety and that's what my shop uses with all the nitrous cars, so they know the tuning with it/jetting when using it. My nitrous tuneup is still well on the safe side, but again, better safe then sorry. I pulled every plug after every run when I went to atco and sprayed it the first time and every single plug looked great porcelan had a nice tan color to it, ground strap had ust about zero heat to it, etc.etc. I probably could have used the #8 plugs and been fine, but I had to buy plugs anyway so I went a step colder for the first trip to be safe. Better to start safe then start off too hot and hurt something.

IMO a #6 plug is a good n/a plug for under 12 to 1 compression, over 12 to 1 I'd go #7 n/a, or any nitrous at all with under 12 I'd run a #7, over 13 to 1 I'd run a 7 or 8 n/a and an 8 or 9, or even a 10 with nitrous, dependign on what the compression/size of the shot is.

I run 7's & spray a 250 shot . I gap them at .025. When i sprayed the second stage we put 8's in, same gap. You gottto make sure fuel & nos pressure are right., with timing pulled. Thats whats been working for me.

Beaflag VonRathburg Dec 25, 2007 11:53 PM

So we're saying a 200 shot is the ceiling for a TR6. What's the ceiling for a TR7?

I have a new set of all pros that don't accept acorn style plugs. I don't have the engine together, but what plugs would work in these heads that are comparable to a TR6/7/8 etc?

Robert56 Dec 25, 2007 11:58 PM

No not an absolute ceiling at 200, as many, including myself have run past this. However, any glitch in your system and there is no safety net, so...
Robert

JL ws-6 Dec 26, 2007 04:59 AM

Personally..... if you're gonna spray over 100 I'd go to a 7 for that safety net. I dunno why people try to push the envelope with stuff like spark plugs, They're so cheap and easy to change I will never understand.

stockish compression 100 shot #6, more then 100 #7. 12 to 1 compression and a 100 shot @7, more then a 100 shot #8, 13 to 1 compression #8 with a 100 shot, more then 100 shot #9, etc.etc. It's probably overkill safe, but again, for the 16 bucks or whatever a set of plugs cost, why not start cold, see what they look like and go from there?
