Default 98 Firebird roller

Finally found a roller to toss my motor in. Picked up a 98 Firebird for 800. Pretty complete for a roller. Was an LS1 6 speed car. Has a BMR k-member and torque arm. I also have the center console and shifter.

I wanted to since I mostly post s10 stuff. I do need to clear out my garage for this.

I will have it in my garage next weekend. Then I can take inventory of whats needed. I am certain the engine trans harness is gone. Does anyone in WA have one for sale? I have read the 98 ecu is not liked, but I did find the instructions to repin it to a 411.

Anyone around have a Trans Am hood or deck lid? I have a 2000 fbody harness for an automatic if anyone is in need.

I ended up with a 2000 engine harness for the t56. I am pulling out all the air pump and egr stuff at the moment.

I have the k-member ready to roll back under the car. Picked up a set of stainless works headers for a decent price. Just waiting on the T56,clutch and tick master cylinder to get here. I also repinned the harness for a 2000 ECU. Anyone have a stock driveshaft laying around?

pushing around a kmember to install the engine was so much easier then just using an engine hoist.

took longer to bolt on because of the alignment pin was slightly bent. Once it was straightened she bolted right up.

Sent my t56 down to texas drivetrain performance for a rebuild. They use to be a sponser here. I got the call back today with the damage.

I picked up the used t56 for $950 and the rebuild is $2400 for a lvl2, the input shaft and intermediate shaft were toast. 1st and reverse had excessive wear. He said it looked like it was ran low on fluid for a while. Total out the door is about $3100 which includes a stage 2 diamond clutch kit. If you include the tick master that I already picked up I am in about $4300. I know the TR6060 is about 3100 before mods to fit an fbody.

the word Budget and I never go together well.

I hear you on the t56. I was looking at my options and more money out, it was going to be either way. If I bought a t56 magnum, more money would have to be added. Some people say they prefer a built t56 over the magnum and some don't. Everyone's got different opinions on it.

I had a perfectly good performabuilt lvl2 that was great, but I apparently like to learn hard lessons and take a short bus sometimes.

Texas drivetrain is great! They hooked me up with an input shaft for my t56 rebuilt out of their personal stash( the 2 piece m12 shafts are getting rare) great people ! even though I was doing it myself they were quick to give me tips and setup specs.

I appreciate the info. I am sure he wasn't messing with me on price. I searched the hard parts he mentioned and he is coming in lower then all the hard part prices I found. Pretty sure I will get a quality unit back and I am not one for tearing up my stuff. When I had the auto I did one burn out and it was pretty lame. When asked why I didn't get on it more I said I want it to last not break today.

On another topic, Anyone sub'd ever swap the 98 ecu for a 99+? I did all the repining and took out stuff I am not using. I also have a 99 plastic tank and wonder if it will read when I swap it out. I picked up the plastic unit because I used a 99+ racetronix pump and hot wire kit in the Jimmy so I have it to use also. Any other ecu swap tips would also be great.

Jason at Texas drivetrain built my stage 2 T56 for my car. power levels and turbo sized ended up being bigger then I originally planned, so I swapped it into my Camaro and sold the stock t56. converted my trans up to an auto and went with a jakes 4l80. $4000 will get you a nice 4l80 and converter. :p

Jason does great work though. my t56 was out of an 03 cobra. he swapped the cobra shaft for an fbody shaft for free for me. I had an mgw short shifter and the transmission shifted like butter.

and your not the only one looking for a ws6 hood lol. the true fiber hood through the ws6store seems to be the best deal, its around $530 shipped.

I am going to order the mgw shifter, lots of great things said about it. The hood, yes. I was eyeing the smoothyQ hood from VFN. Not sure yet. I keep looking at goodies when I need to just get the car running, than buy hood, etc.

Motor is in, harness is ran, all accessories have been attached. Later today the BMR cross member will be here and the trans will get installed. I should be able to start it up in a week.
