Firebird High School Race Review
Well, me and my high school buddies went out to Firebird this last Sunday to race in the first high school race of the year. Weather was pretty nice, besides the 10 mph headwind and the fact that we all got sunburned. It was probably in the 60s, but just no protection from the sun out there. Not to mention we were out there from 8:30 AM until 7 PM
Unfortanately my car wasnt done, so i got to race the intrepid. 16.5s-16.6s all day with 2.3-2.4 60s. It was actually somewhat entertaining to drive a different car, even though it wasnt as exciting going down the track. I managed to pull of 3rd place in division 3 (15.7-17.2) 4 wins and then i broke out by .04. My first race the kid i was racing crashed into the wall. The kid had some bad wheel hop of the line but stayed on the gas until his car was TOTALED into the wall. The car was a late 60s chevelle ss 396 running a 17.0. Then the funny part was about 5 minutes later im walking down into the pits to see the damage (i saw the whole thing in my rearview mirror) and the kids dad gets in it, turns down the track, slams on it and almost does the exact same thing . I cant imagine what the track officials were thinking. After an hour of cleaning the track the races resumed. Funny thing was that the kid thought he was a total bad *** before the race. Him and all of his friends were giving me staredowns and talking ****.
My buddies 93 camaro z28 (Speed Density) ran a new best of 13.45 with a 1.8 60 on my MT drag radials. He got 3rd place in division 1 (14.1 and quicker).
My other friends 93 camaro z28 had his opti shitting out on him so he was running consistent 15.2s . He managed to get 3rd place in division 2 (14.1-15.7). His opti later completly went to **** on the drive home and now his broken car is sitting in front of Speed Densitys house waiting on a new opti to come in from summit.
All in all it was a pretty sweet day. Our school is in 2nd place by 3 points, which is an entry (individual gets 3 points for entry, 10 points for winning a race). Im tied for 3rd place overall with 43 points. It was just nice to get back out there and spend the day at the track again. Next race is on May 19th. Looks like ill still have the intrepid as of right now. The camaro will be ready for the June 10th night fever though.
