It's a factory rig, my cousin has it and is wondering if there is anything to do to get better mileage?
Any increase in mileage is worth consideration, especially with gas prices now.
Figured I'd check the NW Braintrust before heading to the truck area.

Move to flat land... lol
I get 9.7-9.9 average mpg in my hilly area on 92 octane. You know lots of old muscle cars only got 10ish mpg. I take solace in the fact that I make more hp and move more weight than they did and manage to get the same mpg.
The alternative is to sell or stop driving it.

not too much you can do to the BB.. I think that was the 496, not a 502 Is it a 2500 with the 8.1 vortec? If so it is a 496.
Anyways, basic bolt ons like: cold air intake, better flowing exhaust, electric fans, and some pulleys may help. But the best thing he can do is tune it. I think Nelson Performance can do that for him. Alan has a great rep, and is a great guy to do business with. His tunes kick *** BTW. LINKY

I'll check it out this weekend and see what's up with it. I figured the stock tuning was pig rich. I've read the truck forums and the fan mod looks to be a good one too. Nelson's cost is 325 for a tune.
Thanks for the tips.

Yep it is the 8.1(496)
Nelson sells fan harnesses for like $60. And if you/he could find some LS1 fans, that is the cheapest way to go, and it still looks good, I will be doing the same setup as soon as I have time to call Nelson and have him sent me a harness and a tune.
*BTW a tune is required to run electric fans

Had a friend who had a TT Callaway we used to do alot of cruzing in it. Killer acceleration, very hard on clutches, brand new first night he had it rolling in 2nd gear nailed throttle car came unglued. Blew tires off in 2nd and 3rd, hit 4th car accelerating very hard....... clutch smell, its on my top 5 fastest street cars list.
