Default Last Saturday's Drags

Took the Olds to a Car Show/ Drags event this weekend way out on the tip of
the NW Washington Coast. Fishing and Logging country.
Got to say that some of those guys up there really know how to turn in some impressive times.
Some of them are down right crazy though....
One guy had a Blown BB on juice mounted in a 69 Veedub with a huge friggen wing to try to keep it on the road.
He ran four times and each time he had some real problems with control and had to shut it off half way down the track.
His last run was s disaster, though.
At about 170mph, he started to drift sideways. He couldn't stop it so he let off on the gas and the car lurched the other direction and instantly became airborne.
Three revs in mid air just like a turkey on a spit and then it hit the ground and must have rolled twenty times.
The engine seperated as well as wheels and anything else that could come loose.
When he came to a stop it was just a couple of doors on the cage and the guy sitting up waving out the window.
He got out and was staggering like he had his bell rung pretty hard but he was alright.
Got to be dumb Irish luck if you ask me.

Then there was a guy in a new Caddy XLR-V with a supercharged Northstar.
He claimed 443 hp.
He was turning 12's but was really flogging the **** out of that new car.
When he drove past I noticed he had dealer plates on it.....WTF?

Then there were about half a dozen logging truck tractors.
A Kenworth, a couple of Peterbuilts and a Mack.
Damn!!! Those things were fast. I sure got an education.

Great burgers and other goodies and lot's of people.
Had a blast and got "best of show" for the Olds.

Going to a big Show South of Oak Harbor at Greenbank Farm this coming weekend that has cash prizes.
I'm hoping......Saturday the 17th, suppose to be awards for 50 classes.

Long time no see DT!

Those are my old stomping grounds and it sounds like not much has changed. You get "old schooled" with those logging trucks - I remember them flying around the corners of Cresent Lake with a full load scaring the crap outta the tourists

Post up some picts!!!!!!!!!!

Was the VW painted red white and blue? There was a dude down at PR a couple weeks ago running a red white and blue Beetle with a blown & juiced big block, it was running low 8's at 170+ mph down there. Looked like an absolutely INSANE ride.

I've seen that guy run and he is insane but you have to admit the beauty of his set up
Never seen him put a bench on it though, he's a bit smarter with his mod $$$$$$.

After his first 8.xx run I went to the pit to see wtf his set up was.
That is probably *the* most sick set up I've ever seen on a bb stuffed into a Bug. Never did catch how many tanks he had - also wondered if he did the work himself or had someone do it for him.
He's a solid driver, can't see him losing control like DT said he saw.

Well, he was all over the track at PR the last time I saw him there, too.. but he managed to keep it in control. At those kinds of speeds, aerodynamics will make a huge difference... he probably had something a little off, and caught a gust of wind or something.

Personally, I think that in a 170+mph drag car, a rear spoiler is a very smart thing to spend mod money on.

Well, I seem to remember that it was white but I'm not sure of the rest of the colors.
Yeah, he had an awful time keeping the thing under control. He seemed to drift a little sideways once he got half way down the track.
Once that happened, he would just back off and coast the rest of the way.

I'm not exagerating when I say he turned over three times in mid air.
He must have turned over a dozen or more times when he hit the ground.
The whole crowd surged towards the concrete dividers along the strip to get a view.
Never seen anything like it.
Oh, now I know where half the Novas and Chevelle's in the state are based.
Like I said, some pretty impressive rides.

The location was at the Forks airport just South of Forks.

The group that puts it on is called "West End Thunder".

The guy to contact is Phil. He was the Mayor of Forks a few years back.
Here's the dates for the next meets.
Seemed to be pretty well organized.
Also, lots of Chow and show cars. No year restrictions.

July 15th & 16th, Aug 12th & 13th, Sept 9th & 10th.. Gates open at 9a.m. $25 admission for race drivers, $5.00 for spectators & Show cars... For info call Phil at 360-640-0372 or 360-374-6696 . The 640 number would be the best bet to reach him.

I didn't run the thing.
I already know it's a high 13 second car the way it is.
I did some unofficial runs and most were 14's but got a few 13.9's at a little over 100 mph.
I guess the fact is, I would have got my *** kicked by most of the rides there.
I did, however, come away with best of show out of 150+ entries.
I guess that's sumpthin.....

It sounds just like one night I went to some races out side of orlando fla. a couple of years ago. Waaaay the hell off broadway! These people (geneticly questionable) were going VERY fast and inbetween they would race old school busses then one thing led to another and some how one was set on fire right in front of the stands, this blue green chemical cloud just set right down on these mainiacs and they loved it!! Ive never seen so much bad booze reek such havoc At least half of the spectators were in the trees on the way back! But bottom line there were some realy quick cars from the drag racers!
