Default My new ride

05 ninja 500r

The one I bought has 3000 miles on it.
It had been sitting for over a year, so i went with some tools and some fresh gas and a little battery jump starter.

Siphoned out the gas(yummy) and filled her up with the fresh stuff... hooked up the little battery jumper and she cranked for a good 10 sec and then fired up... idled down nice and smooth and ran surprisingly well for sitting for so long... All the fluids were clean, theres no rust in the tank. Never been dropped. The battery wont hold a charge, so I'll pick one up tomorrow and try to get it home to change the fluids and clean it up.

For 3,000 I got the bike, a Shoei TZ-1 helmet and two full sets of gear(summer and bad weather)

Nice gear... easily 1000 dollars in gear and the bike books for 4,000ish.

Its nice to find **** like that!! My buddy has one and so does my other buddies wife. Great starter bikes. The power isn't there like the newer 600's, but you'll feel it want to move.

After a while you'll get an itch for something bigger, and I'm betting you can probably get a nice amount more than what you paid for that 500 when its time to sell it.

Isn't that a rice burner? Am I the only one who sees the irony here?

Nice bike though! I've been thinking about getting a Ninja 250 or something that'll get me tons of miles to the gallon for summer, these gas prices are raping me.

Yea its kinda a rice burner... but i can now change my name to HalfLiterRiceEater

Gas mileage was the main motivation for the purchase of the bike. That... and it should run 12's which is pretty slow for a bike.

Sean, nice score!!!

Now, listen to your father, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful. Take it slow, learn to ride properly, and TAKE THE SAFETY CLASS SOON, HELL, TAKE IT TWICE!!!!

Russ, help me keep JR out of trouble...thanks.

Sean, I could not stop you from getting a bike being I have been riding for over 23 years or someshit like that.

But please use your BIG head and be careful. Ride defensively, remember, you must think that NO ONE sees you. Trust me on that one.

Anyhow, nice bike, when do the real pics come out? Is Gil gonna ride with you?

BE CAREFULL!!!!!

Dad

Nice bike, I used to have one similar. Aren't too awful fast, but they'll get you around in a hurry if you push it. Take it easy though, do some learning.

I got a Ninja 500 (EX500) back in '88 or '89 and didn't take the classes to learn, just self taught to ride........I just finished the Safety class up here a couple weeks ago and I am so much better off because of it. Gives you a good foundation for when you get out on the real streets on just 2 wheels with no metal around to protect you.

That'll be a good starter bike if you've never owned a street bike before.

Good find.

I signed up for the course a few weeks ago, the earliest available one is july 6-8... so its a ways out. I have a feeling that ill be on the bike before then at least in the neighborhood across the street.

For now I just have to get the damn thing home. Im not riding it from Bainbridge island to silverdale with absolutely no experience.

Put the new battery in it today, it fires right up.

Get to a big open parking lot somewhere close so you can just practice pulling out, small short slow turns, etc(damn, 3 words that start with "s" in a row). It will help alot to do that kinda stuff so you can learn the basics.
