Wednesday night drags at PR
Finally got a chance to get out to the drags to see what the addition of the Kooks headers had on my 1/4 mile times. Last spring I ran a best of 12.8 @ 116mph with the 2.8 Maggie, Magnaflow exhaust and StealthV tune. Since then I've added Kooks headers, a K&N filter and a retune. I feel that I'm also a much better driver now as this is my first manual transmission car and I was pretty bad at driving fast the first few months.
So...last night at Wednesday-night-drags I went out to try and get into the mid-low 12's. I got to run four times (60' - 1/4 - mph):
1. 2.369 - 13.381 - 110.82 (beat a nearly stock ????? (14.3@94.38))
2. 2.282 - 13.195 - 111.72 (lost to nearly stock '01 ZO6 (12.7@107.22))
3. 2.277 - 13.096 - 111.93 (beat a nearly stock VR4 (14.8@97.94))
4. 2.342 - 13.281 - 112.93 (beat a stock '07 M5 (14.9@108.84))
I spoke to the guy in the M5 quite a bit through the night. He was running almost identical times to me on each run (ie he progressively got faster through the night.) We were literally w/i a tenth of one another all night...except the time we lined up against each other. He said he accidentally started in 2nd gear. My 3rd run was my best and beat his best by one-hundreth of a second. He was also trapping 110-111.
So...I am disappointed in my times but feel sorta ok about it since the M5 was also running really slow. The first run was with a 92 degree outside temp and the final run was at 75 degrees. Unusual heat for Seattle and this time of the year. I also had my sub box, golf clubs and a 99% full gas tank. That's probably good for over 200lbs of extra weight. The ZO6 said he normally runs 12.5@110ish. There was a 5.7L GTO running low 14's all night. I think he was pretty frustrated as well.

Didn't see you there Tom. I was there in my SS and saw the M-5 but didn't see your Caddy. Glad you got some runs in. My 1st N/a time was slow as well so I ran the N20 the rest of the night. Even though it was hot as hell the car ran very quick with the nitrous. I think on a cool day I will be hitting the 10 sec mark.

Last night conditions were fine if you were interested in bracket racing but if you were going for time it was a waste.

Keep at it and get some stickier tires and you'll be pleasantly rewarded.

I saw your car in the lanes and noted the wildly different times of the M5. In spite of the warm conditions, the crowd was the smallest I have ever seen. It's hard to enjoy the event when your car is not performing to expectations. However, I think you are making the power, you just need to get it to the ground.

But I'm not a great driver either.

Last year I ran 12.8-12.9 @ 115-116mph all night long. It was early spring and temps were perfect. 116mph should be good for 11's if I just had a bullet-proof rear diff and rear setup that wouldn't bounce all over the place like a rabbit on steroids. ...and I'm not the best driver either. The first two runs I nearly bogged the car when I let out the clutch.

I'm not sure why the M5 had such inconsistent times. Afterall, the 7 speed SMG in that thing only requires a flick on the paddle-shifter to change gears...how hard could that be?

I have to launch my car at over 5500rpms to keep it from bogging! Are you running stock tires?

Im gonna go out on a limb here an say your on street tires because those 60ft times look very similar to mine What kind of tires are you running on? Im on 275-40-17 Kuhmo Ecstas an they're great for street use but really suck at the track. I think you should definitely invest in a good set of DR's an keep the wieght of your car down. I bet you'd be much happier with your times

I'd definitely go dyno at Turbo Tech. With your mods you should be at 400+ rwhp. Who did your tune? As for the 60', I wasn't able to get sub 2.0 60' times until I got the Nitto DRs. Launching with IRS can be tough.
BTW, post your best run in the Run What You Brung thread and I'll be glad to get you on the list.

Yep, its right there in Tacoma-You could talk to Ryan K or Robert56, as there both locals there. They should be able to help ya out. Ellis can help ya out with tuning to if that ever becomes an issue for you
