Default ATTN GUYS THAT TOW!!! Need advice!!

I'm gonna be adding a Prodigy Brake Controller to the SS and was wondering if anyone has installed one or know's the best (least expensive) place to purchase one.

BTW, I'll be out to Turbo Tech's Dyno Day to hang out and support you 2wd friends of mine.

I got my brake controller at Camping World in Fife. In my truck it was pretty easy to installed as it comes pre-wired pretty much. Just connect about 4 wires to the brake controller and pop in a fuse and that was it.

Cool!! I figured it'd be easy to instal.... but U-haul quoted me $150 for the Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller. From what I hear its the best out right now becuase its inertia driven? Whatever the hell that means. I just want to make sure that when I'm hauling heavy 23' camper trailors or whatever, that I'm not gonna kill myself when I have to slam on the brakes.

No what I mean? Anyway, who did you guys go through to purchase your brake controllers and which ones did you go with? You recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy?

I have a Tekonsha P3 and really like it. It's loaded with features and easy to use. Got it in Kent at TLCentral, as recommended by the place we bought our trailer. I'd call it a two thumbs up experience, from the installation service to the performance over the mountains.

Mine is a prodigy...I don't remember the model.

I also got a load leveling hitch, and a large ball. It was $450 for everything with a few other little things. I have a 24' camper that I haul around.

that's kinda what I thought. I know the trailblazers have a decent towing capacity from the factory, but that's still a big trailer to be pulling. I know my trailer is just about at the limits of what I'd want to pull with my truck (of course it only has a 5.3L and 3.42 gears )

My 2K Surburban has 30K towing miles with a 5.3L and 3.73 gears. In the last 3 years it has towed to Nevada 3 times and Montana once, besides all the times to the track.

Change the fluids (trans, transfer and diffs) with synthetic every spring and the oil every 3K and you'll have no issues.

The last time we went to Nevada, my truck was 30-50 degrees cooler on all the important parts than the other Chevy 5.3L trucks in the caravan.

My only complaint is I'd like 3.73 gears. The 3.42s with the 32" tall tires are pretty steep for towing. I've only towed the camper home from Puyallup with this pickup and it was ok, I just drove in drive rather than OD. I don't think I'd be happy with 4:10s the other 95% I drive it though.

The prodigy is what ,most use. the good part is it does three axles like Aarons. I have the Tekonsha Voyager. I paid like $59 local and got the Kit from the dealer for $29.

Install took a few hours because I wanted it out of the way and took my time.

I'm not sure how much the trailor weighs! From what I've looked at on the internet (not exact) but its around 7000lbs GVW. So I'd be pushing past the GCVW for the SS. I'm not so much worried about what it can tow, the wheel size compared to gears.......as I am about the short wheel base.

The plan is to rent a trailor for the memorial day weekend. My girlfriends family always hits a specific place here in Washington where all her family gathers for the weekend.....and.....well camps! LOL!! But I'm not huge into tent camping so I'm going to rent a camper from outdoor rec here on the base.

The only trailors they have available that weekend are a 23'er and a 30'.....and I'm sure I could pull a 30' camper trailor, but I'm not about to test fait (spelling?).

The GCVW for the SS is 11,600lbs and I'm betting it'll be closer to 12,000....but I have no doubts that the truck can pull it. It'll just be slow going for my peace of mind!
