Painted intaked need help

I just finished painting my intake, using duplicolor engine enamel, let it dry for 5 days and i sprayed the clear (4 coats) on it. After i sprayed the clear on it this afternoon the color looks duller. Is that normal or did i screw something up? What do i do to get it to have a rich shiny appearance.

you use a real spray gun to get a rich shiny sppearance, spray bomb is no good..

was it really humid out when you did the clear?

youd be surprised what can be done if you do it right. i always paint my parts with a gun, but many people here have proved your statement wrong!

I have used a spray can for every thing, turns out great. Just do it like using a gun, prep good, paint even, and maby sand a little and buff!

That duplicolor clear takes some shine away when using. If you are in a hurry, you can take it and spray it on very heavy, and it have the shine back. That's what I allways do, than sand and buff. You can try just putting lots of light coats on, but I think putting it on heavy works fine.

In my opinion, I wouldn't use clear on the intake. I know you used high heat paint for the intake, is the clear coat high temp too?? If not, just forget about the clear and leave it, it should look fine.

hmm...we sprayed mine off the car and put it back on the same day and did a primer/base/clear and hand painted it and it has a decent shine..i too used the autozone high temp engine paint. it sat for 15 mins or so between coats and i drove the car home that night (100 mi) after changing the intake manifold gasket. I don't know about LS1's though, do you have to do anything different to them? i know the LT1 intake is aluminum, but what is the LS1 intake made out of? and FWIW the clear i used was high temp just like the primer and black
