Default Looking for WS6 Bumper Cover Paint Advice

I had my 98 WS6 in for service last week and they scrubbed the front bumper cover where it was previously pristine.

They've agreed to cover the repair costs which is great. In talking to my body shop I expressed hesitation in repainting the complete cover. They indicated they can fix the red and do a partial clear and not get into any more of the bumper cover with new paint than is needed keeping the original finish on most of the cover.

Am I expecting something and are they offering something that is going to look bad? Will you be able to tell it is a repair? I've always heard that you clear the whole panel if you are going to paint it.

Thanks for any advice.
