Is it totaled?
1997 Tans AM
102,000 miles
Texas car untill i got it in 08. Engine and trans are original, still strong. Clutch has 15K.
Under 10K on new opti, electric water pump, radiator, & all hoses
Think it will be considered totaled? Even if it is, think its worth fixing? Or buying back and parting out the way to go?
also needs a hatch, the fiberglass is all cracked, and the side skirt on the passenger side.

ummmm i`ll tell ya this right now, that type of hit, both rear frame rails are damaged, trunk floor, inner and outer wheel house, rear body panel, replace the 1/4, and just the parts you see on the outside, plus the high mileage, i would say yes its totaled
now if you have lets say allstate, farmers, geico, liberty mutual, progressive, sad to say they would have us fix that hit, but my opinion its a goner

Agreed on being totalled. The mileage/year won't be worth the amount of damage.
Find out what your insurance company will charge you. State Farm usually does 17%-19% of the payout price for the buyback cost.
I tried parting out my Grand Prix, and ended up throwing most of the parts out (Including some of the brand new ones just to make room). Unless you have the room to store the parts, or are willing to sell them oober cheap, then it may not be worth your time/effort to tear it all down.
I did learn that it's actually better to cut the car up yourself, and cash in on the weight, rather than calling a boneyard to pick it up. I only got $125 for the Prix, which I thought was low for an entire car. (minus all the expensive parts).
After I got hit in my Bonneville 3 weeks ago, I didn't want to deal with parting out a second one and trying desperately to sell the parts, so I let the insurance company take it and done.

Take the payoff and the car . You for real would probably get more for the leather seats and door panels than the amount of money they would take off the payoff check for keeping the car . My moms grand am Gt was just in a front collision , not even that bad but enuff to total ...we got that 48K mile 2000 GT back for a mere $500 bux and check for $4200 as a payoff .
Unless your willing to rear clip it , I wouldnt mess with fixing a rear end accident like that where the structure is all bent up . Maybe I havent seen a good fix , but Ive always been able to tell when rear trunk area and inner 1/4 areas have been bent/beat...whatever back to shape front a rear end collision .

word of advice, if its at a shop the only thing you can remove is your own stuff, like radio speakers, stuff like that, the insurance company and the junk yard pay for a complete car, so you cant strip the car down at the shop find out where the car is going to then strip it down
a shop isnt going to let you do anything like that only if its what i mentioned above

buy it back and try your luck with another TX car....lol....I have a '97 M6 WS6 that needs head gaskets....has a fresh $3,500+ paint job on it...it does have a little more damage on the front but it's all repairable...my neighbor backed into it after I got it all put back together and then my g/f drove it and it overheated. I'm asking $2,500 for it.
