Also depends on who you know.

I know a semi-retired body guy, who still does it on the side (which is now almost a full-time job again lol). He was recommended to me by somebody here. Basically it was going to cost me $2k to get the car repainted. That includes some quarter repair and new fender, bumper, and hood installed (I already have the parts). I'm saving some money by doing things myself, like removing trim pieces and a bunch of the smaller things that are just time consuming.

Now the price has gone up some because I have some underbody rust that I want him to fix and seal the underbody with POR15, so it will probably run me closer to $2500-$2800.

He used to run a shop here in town before he semi-retired, and said that when he had all the extra overhead there he had charged much more. So my $2500 job would have been probably closer to double that.

15k for a paint job is just rediculous. Guess it depends on what you want and how much your willing to pay for it. 2-5k is what shops do it where i come from and most of them do a damn good job too. Ya they could spend many more hours doing small stuff to make it beter but honestly thats for people that got money coming out of their *** and can just throw it around. Ive never heard of anyone around me paying over ten grand but ya im sure rich fokes do all the time.

i went to get my estimate, just waiting for the email now with $. Here's what we discussed...

I bring hood, fenders, spoilers to him to cut in first. Then take it all home, put it on the car and get all the panels aligned and installed. After that, bring it back to him so he can blend it all.

What's your guess on price?, polo green metallic...

It is that big a difference. Why do you think so many large manufacuring companys, with headquarters in the north, have been moving their labor-intensive manufacturing and distribution to the south. Cheap labor, not much union presence.

Of course, it's also why so many of us live in trailer parks down here...

yes I did mean $15,000 for a repaint for the same color, he said closer to 20k if I wanted to change colors....but like I said, this is a high end shop that puts out show cars, so the quality is top notch. And that includes painting the engine bay and everything, so alot of the cost is in the prep work of pulling everything to make sure the entire body gets sprayed with the new paint.

I hear ya....unions are the death of this country. I pray for the day they are banned.

I got my quote from the dealer. I bring him all the parts, he paints, then I put everything on the car and bring it back so they can blend the doors in. This is for the new hood, front bumper, left and right fenders, $1345 so far. waiting on the quote for the rear bumper and SS spoiler.

I guess the big price ranges on paint jobs is a regional thing.......but anything more than $3,000 for a top quality paint job...by a top painter like Chris Cruz....to me...is friggin hilarious.

3 grand in materials alone for repainting a car? What the hell kind of materials do you use? So far in my experience with custom materials I have found out that the most expensive is not always the best.

lol.....I saw my car halfway through, almost the entire car was sanded down. Every piece that could be removed was hanging separately in the paint booth. He used PPG paint and he actually did give me Concept Clear...2 coats. He had 42 hours labor in the whole project. There's no way a paintjob can get ALL THAT MUCH better than what I have...........not without getting stupid about it and just blowing cash for the hell of it. Then you can't drive it on the road, being afraid of one little rock hitting the hood.
