I would say no, unless your going for serious weight loss. Depends how much money you have too, I guess. The good thing about "plastic" bumpers is that they will flex a little if hit at low speeds and may not crack as easily as fiberglass.

I've heard fiberglass bumpers will chip easily from rocks and road debris. Anyone know where to get fiberglass Trans Am bumpers? I've never been able to find any...other than the Evolution ones.

fiberglass is typically heavier, does not flex at all, and has a horrible fit. they do chip easily, and instead of flexing they just crack. Im not sure why you would want fiberglass.....

It's something that would be ok on a show car or a weekend only car. Much easier to modify than plastic. Just less durable for on the road.

if you drive the car more than once a month, you'll hate fiberglass bumpers

I went retarded a few years ago and got an entire knock-off Saleen ground effects kit for my Mustang in fiberglass thinking I was all hardcore racer and going to save some weight. I had probably one of the best bodyshops in Texas paint the car and cure in their shop. From the shop to my house (~20 miles), there was at least 6 chips on the front and another dozen behind each rear wheel. After 6 mos, there was no paint left behind the rear tires and the front bumper looked like an angry monkey beat it with a golf shoe. The bodyshop warned me and I didnt listen, even suggested I get the clear bra stuff on it...

I had a fiberglass bumper on my old 94 Mustang GT and it didn't do that bad. I made sure they used several coats of the extreme hard clear coat on it too tho. The few times I'd bottomed that bumper on the steep driveways it dented the fenders but never cracked.

I believe the fiberglass isn't as versatile IMO a little inferior.

But of you needed to modify the shape of the part, fiberglass is the only real alternative, right?
