Default Overhaul on 97' Z28

I had a paint/ body guy come take a look at my 97 Z today. I know there is quite a bit wrong with it but I was just wondering does $8,000.00 seem high or is that a reasonable rate for overhauling one of the 4th gens?

You would have to post pics.

It couldnt if the car is in rough shape and getting the SEMA show quality treatment.

And exactly what work is being done?

8 grand? The whole car is probably not worth much more than half of that. If you think about it from a resale prospective it may bump the value of your car up by 3K or so. This would be a 5K loser.

I know that's not what you wanted to hear but if this car really needs 8K worth of body work and paint I suspect it's fairly rough or the guy doesn't want to mess with it.

I could be wrong.

Nice looking car black... Idk 8,000 is awfully high but every exterior part needs some kind of work done to it with the exception of the roof of the car. Ok anyone know of somebody on the east coast of NJ that can recommend a painter/ body guy who truly takes pride in their work? Cause I'm looking for that guy but also not trying to get ripped off.

I would never render a judgement until I have pics and explaintation of trouble spots as well as expectations of work.

Just like I deal with detailing jobs. People tend to leave out "Buffer swirls from the last guy are still there...." well I guess that means Im close to burning into the paint..... which would be then my fault, screw that....

Paint Quotes are not scaled back by the age of the vehicle. You can spend 20k if that is what you want and want the guy to do all the work. Thats why I am learning the trade and to do as much as I can via sweat equity means a lot.

Even if I can get everything set until actually spraying it would be a good thing. 90% prep 10% shooting...

Anyways, no more rambling.

Lets get some specific details bout the project and more realistic expectations....

That is sooooo vague, it needs definitly more info. If I was running a biz with over head, you have to price accordingly. Labor + Materials + overhead + waste + taxes. Most if not all guarrentee work and most shade tree guys dont.

Depends on what kind of work is being done (body, frame repair, paint type and quality) also most importantly what shop is doing it.

Going to a Mercedez Benz body shgp will obviously be much more than a local place with good rep.

It really depends on what shape the car is in now and what you want the finished product to be.

Most people who say "X" amount of dollars is way to much to paint a car have never painted a car properly.
