From what ive read before buying, you basically screw it into the end of the Speedometer Gear Housing near the tail shaft end of your th400 that looks like so... in the pic below....




Then you wire the 2 wires on the other end to your cars vss

It's to covert a mechanical system to an electrical one? What's VSS?

Basically yes so your stock fbody speedometer will work after a th400 swap. When you do the th4oo swap, you are controlling the trans manually and the stock harness doesnt plug into the trans anymore. This fixes that. VSS is vehicle speed sensor.
