Heads have casting numbers...do the casting numbers have to match to my current cars or how exactly does that work?

if you want 5.7L castings you'll generally want 853's or 241s. 243s are nice too!! (LS6 heads)

wow - I definitely appreciate all of the responses that i've gotten...

before I buy a set, Im trying to find someone who ports heads in my area, ive heard a couple people do it, but I need to locate them and find out how much they're going to charge, I'm going to go to a shop tommorrow and will let everyone know accordingly.
