EFI Live Connection Question? I did a search and I think that this will not work. I just want a definite amswer. I was trying to run EFI, but the it will not make the connection. I am using a USB to Serial adaptor. I think that is the problem. What should I do to get it to work? TIA Brandon |
Re: EFI Live Connection Question? Are you able to get into EFIlive or have you just not been able to make a connection to the car. I bought a Radio shack USB to Serial Adpater for 40 bucks and it works. At first I blamed the adapter because I could not make connections when the whole time I was trying Autotap which I do not have a liscence for(I am computer illiterate). Make sure you entered everything correctly when installing EFIlive and make sure your adapter had the up to date drivers. If that does not work try the program on another PC or Laptop that as Serial ports and see if that works. Doing that will definently find out if the adapter is the cause. |
Re: EFI Live Connection Question? On the motherboard or pre-installed serial port it autodetects. There is some mention that it will start with COM1 and keep trying until it gets to the "highest COM port". But, just what it "thinks" is the highest COM port, and how those hokey USB-serial adapters figure into the system, is a big question. I'm certain that the USB stuff is not "seen" as a low-level resource, it needs a "bridge" in software to make it "look" like a serial port. You might have to do stuff with the USB-serial setup. Like, try and assign it a fixed COM port location and then make sure EFILive has the same location as its first guess? I wonder if V6 has better handling of this. They just put out the latest update (build 25) this morning. |
Re: EFI Live Connection Question? jimmyblue is correct - the USB/Serial cables require software drivers to be installed on the PC in order to "look like" a serial port. And some USB/Serial converters change the COM port number to which they are assigned under certain conditions. V6.1.6 (build 25) fixed some connection issues with USB cables. Paul |
