Question for you LS1edit and computer guru's

First off I don't know $hit about edit or computers!! But I can't believe you guys can't "cheat" the whole VIN# thing on edit or even other programers. Like I said I don't know much about this stuff but it just seems you guys would have this type of thing mastered by now :bang: Who knows maybe I just sparked a new idea :bomb:

A lot of times the people who can, don't ... I'm a developer, and I respect the amount of effort that goes into a project such as LS1edit -- those guys deserve the cash they're asking for.

look for a used copy and pay the 200 bucks to add another vin if your so broke you cant pay for the program.

I don't think he's saying he can't afford it and wants to crack it... just why hasn't it been done.

I'm with Brian on this one... as a programmer myself, I don't think it would be that hard to crack, but that's not the point. The money they are asking for is very reasonable for what you get. :)

Its not a bad price for what it does. Also the software doesnt use something simple like a registration code or anything in the software, it uses a hardware lock via the cable. Also its not the vin that Edit looks at. I had to replace my computer with a new one and the new one had the same vin put in by GM and my cable didnt work anymore. I had to send it back to Ken so he could reset it. Then theres encryption and acceessing the chip via who knows. All in all its not worth the time or lawsuits. People should get paid for legitimate work especially all the work that must go into decoding GM stuff and all the builds.....screw that. $550 is a steal.

If we all ripped em off who would keep on developing new stuff? I also believe that if this did happen it would only increase the cost of the basic program to help pay for better security. Just my .02 worth. I say keep up the great work Carputing!

I do respect the programs and all the effort put into them to help us mod our cars. Please don't think I am a "thief" for posting the orginal question.I just thinking about it the other day and figured I would post it and see what you computer guys thought about it!!!! Sorry :emb:
