What Would You Do If You Paid $500 For This Tune???

Alright guys, so I got HPtuners a while back and got a chance to look at the first dyno tune that was done to my car.

I thought the numbers were low but I wasn't concerned at first because the VERY reputable tuner (forum sponsor) told me that those numbers were about normal for my car with my mods (another identical car with the same mods later made +20hp over mine on the same dyno with the same tuner).

After looking at the tune and the a/f at WOT (12.0-12.2) of the tune I was shocked to see how little was done. I understand that this was probably a mistake on the tuners part because he is well known and usually does fantastic work. My question to you is what would you do about it, if you have already found another tuner that you are happy with and do some tuning yourself?

The tune is attached.

any opinions?

You know there's no point in critiquing someone's tune. You're just going to get the following excuses:

1. oh i have fifty years of tuning experience
2. The car works right?
3. VE/MAF tuning isn't needed. EFILIVE designers even told me this
4. It's the customer's fault

I tune my cars myself. I know I can take the time and do it right instead of having to rush or hack a tune.

A little rich, but not to the detriment of much power at all. Timing looks fine. Don't know what your complaining about.

I'm I don't know how you can say it wasn't to the detriment of power, I made almost 20whp more with a retune elsewhere (over a baseline dyno with this tune). There was no MAF tuning done, no VE tuning done, a raped IFR table, Tq management left in, etc.... I would have expected this from a $160 mail order tune, but not from a $500 dyno tune. As it is I had to go back 2 hours to get my post cat o2s turned off after the fact!

You are also the only person in MANY who has said there was nothing wrong.

I didn't look at anything else but PE and HO Spark. I agree that raping IFR is not the way to do it. But each to their own. Not touching VE or MAF cals is pretty common for bolt on tunes sadly.

Count yourself among the many who have been "had" by "tuners" .

You discovered what most people who buy their own tuning software find - that they paid a premium price for very modest and sometimes wrong adjustments.

Just be happy that he/they didn't lock your ecm.

Here's my first dyno tune on my 04 V with a FAST 90 and headers. And my dyno graph:

PE: is 12.0 or less and the AFR is 13+. Not at all the right way to do it but at least I only paid $300.

i dont understand the reasoning behind raping the PE or ifr table. just log the run. take the AFR error to commaned a/f and apply to MAF.. wala. done. and done right.

But then what happens when you have positive fuel trims?

Got a chance to look at a tune from this tuner on a cammed car that they did the install and tune on. MAF and VE tables not touched again, TQ management left alone again...no wonder the guys car tries to die sometimes with the A/C on...
