So who's the LS1 GOD?

When it comes to tuning. Who's has a proven track record of making cars run great numbers just from sheer tuning. Where are they located? Just wondering who does most of your guy's tuning or who has the proven record in making cars run record numbers.

Wow, now that is a loaded question!

The good ones are humble, and there are probably a half-dozen to dozen LS1 shops across the U.S. that can get you close to where you want.

On this forum, Frost is certainly one of the more experienced and knowledgeable tuners. Though in all honesty, WOT tuning is the 'easier' part of tuning. Some dyno time..find the right amount of spark and AFR, and your done.

Thats a start for you. I am sure others can lead you in the right direction.

Good luck.

LMR and Virginia Speed both have some record holding stuff but there are MANY other people that can do some great tuning. Search for some shops around your area with a good rep.

anyone use gforce out in pearland?was wondering if there any good?

jpajkos 12-20-2009 10:12 PM

Well I live in Nevada. There isn't any good tuner out here who knows LS1's inside and out. I could be wrong. I want to hear some of the likes and dislikes of tuners. Why are they great why aren't they. If im going to travel ever one day to get my car tuned I want all the info. Both good and bad.

I had them tune my car and was fairly happy with it until I got HPT and saw his tune, it was somewhat of a hackjob. He may do more a thorough job on more highly modded cars but I wasn't too impressed with mine.

only guy i'll let tune my car for sure.

It depends on the setup. I would have a different guy tune my car if I had a small cube, high boost setup vs a big cube NA setup.
FWIW Allan Futral tuned my car and I couldn't be happier. :chug:

Your probably just best heading west into California and using some of the big West coast names (check sponsors and Western Forum).

Your question, while provocative is really not easy to answer. It is very subjective. See, it all depends on your setup. Heads, cams, FI, turbo, etc. Are you wanting a SD tune, MAF, closed-loop or open-loop. Do you care at all about idle tuning, part-throttle, or just WOT.

Ultimately, many of us just decided to learn tuning ourselves. It is very hard and quite cost-prohibitive for a tuner to spend 8+ hours on you car. So, if it is just track times (WOT) you will need a dyno along with your tuner.

90% of the tuning difficulties have to do with cam surging, bucking, stalling, etc. The better shops will get your idle down, but if it is a big cam..you have to spend a lot of time getting part-throttle airflow and fueling down. If you do not believe me, do a search on "cam surging". You see many, many, pages on it. And I do not know of many shops that actually log and adjust Fuel Trims, disable COTP, emissions, codes, etc as a normal part of their tune (emissions laws, time-consuming, etc.).

I am not trying to discourage you, but just letting you know that there is no single "LS1 Tuner God" in this country..unless you have a very big checkbook, or you learn it yourself.

Tell us your mods and your goals. Better to spend the bucks on a tune when you get your major engine mods lined up.

May not have answered your question directly, but others are free to comment accordingly. If you are just looking for a shop/tuner reference I am sure someone can chime in on a good California shop.

Good luck.

Any of the tuning sponsors on this site; Frost, Joecar, Waitformeperformance & a dozen or so others, just can't think of their LS1Tech name right now. If they couldn't tune successfully, they wouldn't still be here. Most of these people also spend alot of there time (unpaid) in this section helping us non-pro/self tuners solve our tuning software &/or tuning issues.

Dan at Masport is very good and a super nice guy to boot. He made my T/A run like a top and went beyond the call of duty to help me out with the car in ways he didn't have to. To bad your on the other side of the country. If your ever in FL he's the man to see

vengeance ftmfw wow cant believe no one has mentioned them yet... search for them, they put out some pretty great stuff...

While I don't have any personal experience with them, Ryne Cunningham at CMS does all the tuning on my buddies car. I know he is always satisfied with the outcome. From reading other testimonies on this board, I've never heard anyone be dis-satisfied with his tuning.

CMS is a sponsor on here as well, and isn't that far of a drive for you. They're located in socal.

Yes G-Force did a great job with my car and they did not over charge me, or have a stuck up attitude like (LMR). If you dont spend $30,000 you will be treated with no customer service.

edcmat-l1 12-21-2009 11:37 AM

I am the tuning GOD!!!!

J/K LOL

Alvin is very good. So is Steve (Frost) Jesse Bubb (wait4me) as well as a few others.

As someone else mentioned, going fast is the easy part. Making them drive nice is the hard part.

Well I am the tuning Jesus! hahahahaha
