Need help! My car won't start Hey guys I'm a noob so be gentle on me. The car is a 98 z28 with a few bolt ons and the problem is I'm not getting spark. So I popped off the line going to the fuel filter and gas came out when you turn the ignition on but there was nothing when cranking. So I replaced the crank sensor and it fired right up, I shut her down put all my tools up and got ready to take her for a spin. I turned the key over and of course the damn thing wouldn't start. I checked the fuel pump again and like before no gas while cranking. Then I went and rented a scanner thing from O'Reillys and it said crank sensor circuit malfunction. I'm guessing that means I need to check all my grounds and wires to see if any are screwed up but I'm not sure how to do it. So I'm just wondering what the next step is. Thanks. |
you should have disconnected the battery (positive) before changing it...u might have burned it out.... |
Oh the positive, I just disconnected the negative. Well I guess I will go blow another 50 bucks. Thanks. |
I just put another crank sensor in with the positive and negative disconnected and this time it didn't even start once. Is it normal for the crank sensor to have oil on it. |
That's

Okay so it's not my actual crank sensor. Does that mean that it's some wire that got screwed up or could it be something else. Once again I'm wondering what the next thing is that I need to do because I'm tired of lookin at my maro stuck on jackstands. It's still doin the same thing there's fuel pressure when u turn the ignition on but none while cranking and there's no spark. |
check your wires on the passenger side that go to the crank sensor the go right past the header and is very typical for them to get burned and shorted out. |
When u say check them what exactly do u mean. First of all the voltage(or ohms whatever they're called) to the crank sensor is supposed to be 12 right, when i tested the sensor i kept getting 10 and 11. So is that good enough or does 1 volt really matter. Second of all are all the wires supposed to have 12 volts because there is this one white wire running to my pcm that has been stripped and it only reads 8 volts. Any help or even some more responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
Sorry the pics are so big Here is the stripped wire only reading 8 volts http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/z...y/SANY0136.jpg and here's my poor car http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/z...y/SANY0036.jpg http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/z...y/SANY0007.jpg |
I guess no one wants to help the noob. |
