Motor swap a couple of options, help please?

Well first off I am converting my previously turboed Toyota Tacome over to a 5.3 V8 so it will be able to tow and open a can of whoop ass on occasion.

I talked to a local salvage yard and they have a couple motor/trans setups, one without harness but WITH computer, or another one with harness and a smashed computer...from what i have read it seems that a computer isnt hard to find, and I guess it can be flashed for the specific application in order to run like stock (to pass smog with the ref)..

Am I right in my thinking here? I saw that a painless harness is about $600 to me thats not so painless..

Should I go for the onesetup with a bad computer and just get one and reflash it??

BTW the yard wants $1500 for a complete motor, trans, harness, and computer, but I think that price will be adjusted since it will be missing a computer or harness..

Is this price too high? I am just trying to make the proper decision so I can get my truck running again.

Thanks guys...
