Default VE Tuning Questions - Those in the know please come in

1. is it as simple as logging rpm, map and VE with efilive and then plugging those values into ls1-edit? (multiplying the VE numbers by 30 of course)

2. is it reasonable on a heads/cam/blower car to need to up the values in edit by as much as 60%

3. what is making the table in edit match the values I datalog buy me? does it just help the computer make more accurate fuel and spark decisions?

4. if I understand things correctly I could also use VE to control A/F? Increase values to richen, decrease to lean. Correct or no?

I am pretty sure the answers to 1,2 and 4 are yes but would like verification but question #3 is the one I really want an answer to.

Thanks in advance!

No because you have to take average values from that RPM and map range to come up with a value. YOu also have to get rid of all deceleration cells.
Chris B has a program written to make this REALLY easy. http://151.200.237.18:8080/Filtering...g%20access.doc

I am pretty sure H/C changes the engines pumping effieciency (VE) by a lot so i dont see a problem making large changes as long as you take the steps above to get the tables right and also make sure you log LOTS of data.

3. what is making the table in edit match the values I datalog buy me? does it just help the computer make more accurate fuel and spark decisions?
Yes it makes the car make better decisions based on the actual efficiency of the engine and the mods. From what i have read on this forums and others it seems the VE table is used first and the other tables are used as multipliers based on the numbers it initially got from the ve table. Ve table modifications can help with a lot of driveablitly issues such as surging, cold and hot startups etc. Problems you will see and experience in a H/C car

4. if I understand things correctly I could also use VE to control A/F? Increase values to richen, decrease to lean. Correct or no?
Yes but like any other table in edit *I* feel that once you get it dialed in you want to use the IFR table and the PE vs. RPM table to dial those in unless you are running with no O2's or in open loop all the time.

HTH. I alos hope i didnt spread any bullshit. I have used the two methods (question 1) to change the tables on my car (2000 SS w LM,4.10 and LID) and the car idles a little better and has better throttle response. Not to mention it pulls a tad bit harder throughout the gears. Have fun and take your time. The program above makes things easier and there are plenty of threads in this forum discussing VE.
