99-02 Harness in my 98 TA
Sorry if I am starting a repetitive thread, and I'm sure people have done it. I have a 98 TA and have heard the wiring harness/PCM isnt as tuner friendly as the 99-02. I wanna do a swap soon and I'm just curious how tough it may be. Any details would be appreciated. Thanks

You can re wire the 98 harness to accept a 99 or newer PCM however it is very complex. Simply put nearly every sensor on the motor changed from 98 to 99 and with that change the resistance in the lines changed. 99 computers read every sensor, where as a 98 sends signals to the dash for the driver
An experienced tuner will not have problems setting a tune in a 98. At least in the 5 1998 ls1's I've owned thats been my experience

Well I already bought a new harness from a 2001 TA and plan on getting a 99-02 PCM as well. Is it as easy as a simple swap and retune/reflash? Or is there more involved?

straight up, the knock sensor values will be off, 98 sensors are overly sensitive, the fuel sender values will be off for fuel in tank(hptuners has a thread on that), the coolant temp sensor is 2 prong instead of 3 prong...

There is more involved. Unless you enjoy spending time re wiring your dash, and swapping your fuel tank, and the vast majority of your engine sensors I would not do it. There is no reason an experienced tuner could not use your 98 PCM to do anything an 99+ would unless you are running some advanced tables
