Default CEL light No Worky

Hey guys, I have a 98 Trans Am and the previous owner disabled the check engine light. The light does not come on at all, no enitial start up check or nothing. Did he remove the bulb you think or is there an easier way to do this? Any ideas on how I can put the light back into service?

I've taken clusters apart where I've seen where it looks like someone has takes a pair of pliers and just crushed the bulb. If you have desoldering/soldering skills you can replace it if that is what someone has done. You can sometimes find a bulb that is not used on your model. For example if your car is an auto you can use the skip shift bulb in the cluster.
