Question how much timing are you guys running with CR less than 10.0:1? Chime in plz

How much timing is ideal to run on a 9.4:1 compression motor? I thought I read somewhere that low compression vehicles can get away and run a bit more timing than one that has a higher compression ratio before the heads go. I’m currently running 29* with a 12.7AFR shooting to shift around 6400RPMs. I understand the old adage is "won’t know without going on a dyno to get where peak hp is at", etc etc, but I’d like to know what the general concensus/rule is for those running around that compression ratio and how much timing is too much please.
flame suit on.

You could put more in it but it will not make more power. They usually quit making more power after 28* and 32ish on carbed LS engines.

Just a compression figure is not going to say what timing should be. Need alot more specifics. I've seen a few cars lose good hp putting too much timing in.

I agree, The head design and flow, camshaft, fuel type all play a large roll.

Just for reference my 5.3 with stock 862 heads, MS3 cam, LS6 intake stopped picking up power at 28*. I ran as much as 31* but it made no difference.

Yeah 26-28 seems to be the normal on these engines with the fuel injected intake and a "Normal" cam. I have seen some weird cams out there that took 35deg of timing and still made more power on the dyno and no kr, but it was only from one company, and the cam was an odd grind.

My ms3 cam only car runs its best track number at 32 degrees and 12.2-12.4 a/f. Can't say anything about dyno though.
