Default "Segment Swap| in my PCM.......4L60E to 4L80E transmission swap.....????

What is this process? Is it simple and fast?

I am installing my new 4L80E and I am also upgrading to an (99+) 0411 Dual Tune PCM.

Also....can my current tune in my factory 1998 PCM be pulled out (it is NOT locked) and simply downloaded into my new 0411 PCM....?

Thanks.

Its simple if you know what you are doing and if there is a compatable 4L80 segment available for the OS you are using.

No
So I need to do a new complete dyno tune if I install the 0411 PCM....?

Yes your 98 tune is not compatible with a 99+. That's part of the point of doing the pcm seap is get tables and a better pcm to tune.

Wow. I am installing a new 4L80E and everyone says I can't use my current 1998 PCM to control it. So now I have to get an 0411 PCM. But now I need a new dyno tune.

Man, it never ends with bad news.

Why can't I install my 4L80E and have it work with my 1998 PCM and current tune?

Because there was never a vehicle produced by GM that uses that PCM/OS that came with a 4L80 to provide a compatible segment. That PCM was only used in 97-98 Vettes and 98 F-bodies. I've never seen it in any other platforms.

How about this. Can my current tune be read from 1998 PCM to see what all the settings and parameters are ....then through mail order tuner or any tuner with tuning software....just manually input the same data/tune again into the 0411 PCM...?

Yes that can be done to a certain extent. There are slight differences in the tables between the two PCM types and OS used in each one. There are multiple OS you can run in a 0411 too. Also there are ways to run a 80 on a 60 segment. I've never done it but here is a thread describing how to do it.

Thanks for the link. Seems easier just to install the new 0411 and get a new dyno tune.....

I guess the tuner can look at my 1998 PCM tune and start from there and then during the dyno tune session make whatever changes are needed.

You realize that if you're handy with harness modification, it is easy to install the relay mod (to invert the 2-3 shift solenod signal, and to gate/control the TCC PWM signal).

Look into what Joe is suggesting. Plenty of guys have used an 80E with a 98 PCM.

I'm not handy with that......no. I want to pay someone to do it so its done right.

I have to wait till November to install my Huron Speed turbo kit.....stuck in the Middle East till then. But I have a brand new in the crate "Jakes Stage 4" 4L80E that I would like to put in now. With my 1998 PCM.
In November the turbo kit goes in and I'll be upgrading to an 0411 99+ PCM.

So I am trying to NOT have to do a complete new dyno tune now with an 0411 PCM swap just because I want the transmission in now....then another full dyno tune when the turbo kit goes in.

Yup, thanks. It gets nutty sometimes. Going into Beirut on Friday for 5 days. last time I was there 2 car bombs went off in a 9 day period.....1 mile from where we were staying. Then a couple later, directly across the street from a hotel we were at....the police and military stormed a room where terrorists were making bombs. As soon as they broke the door in, they detonated it. Killed everyone and the police. We were on our way there in the car from the airport after we flew in. Had to go somewhere else for the night.

Crazy defective humans over here.....

That pcm was also used on some 1998 3500 truck chassis with 454 big blocks and coil near plug ignition. IIRC they had 4l80e's in them but I doubt if if they used the same OS.

Yea, I think thats why the Frost harness and relay change works....
