Default Need info on purchasing an LT1 Tech 1 Diag scan tool?

Hello,

I'm not a mechanic but I own a 1997 LT1 motor, pretty sure its Gen III.

Anyway, the LT1 is in a Mastercraft ski boat with a cadillac northstar ignition system.

My question is, can someone point me to tech 1 diag scan tool that I can use to look at the engine hours for the motor?

I see scan tools listed on EBAY, but I don't really know exactly what I'm looking for?

Thanks,
Dan

I've never seen engine hours recorded or stored in any GM PCMs. What you need to identify is the PCM being used. Being in a boat I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't using a MEFI controller.

You can see run time before a code was thrown. Don't know if the pcm records total time anywhere. Newer stuff probable does if it has a oil life monitor. 1997 is a gen 2. BTW. Do you have a picture of the computer?
