Can't decide between HPT Std or Pro

I'm going to buy HPT, but can't decide if I should get std or pro.I have no plans on buying a WB02 currently, since I don't have the funds for it. But I'm going to be doing a DOD delete and maybe mild cam swap on my 2010 5.3 Sierra. Am I really in need of the pro over std versions?

If you only ever plan on using it with your car, get the standard. If you plan on tuning other people's cars with a wideband, get the Pro.

I'd get the Pro either way. Using a wideband on it's own dedicated 5V signal is going to be better than using the EGR port or whatever.

I bought the standard when I first bought Hptuner’s. I wish I would have bought the pro in the beginning it just makes using a wideband easier and no matter what you think now you will want to use a wideband. If you decide to switch later it will cost you another $289. It will cost you $150 now.

I 100% agree. If you EVER have ANY thoughts you might tune a car from scratch, or for WOT, get the pro. If the $ is your hurdle, find a used one. Thats what I did. So far, I have had 3 guys buy credits to tweak their tunes. It all goes toward a full vehicle unlock in my case since pretty much everyone I know, runs a truck pcm, so soon, it won't even matter. You can use a wideband with serial out with a standard and not run any wires. I use a serial wideband with my pro, no ground offset issues to deal with.

Can you do that with the current version of the HPT box? I thought that was only earlier versions.

I know EFILive you can still.

If you can use serial on the Standard, it's a good way to go.

However, if you want to do any test and tune at the drag strip, the Pro's recording capabilities are good since the laptop is a no-no in the car (unless you hide it/secure it).

I vote pro. Bought mine planing on tunning my own truck, now I have 3 guys at work that want there's tuned. I also like the remote logging

I thought the newest version got rid of the logging? Or did they bring it back. Either way Id go pro.

dmaxs10 Oct 8, 2017 06:03 PM

I hope they didn't remove it, I haven't used the latest one yet

Yes you can use a serial wideband with current version of the standard.

Pro here, why not? The price difference is minor.

Not everyone needs the Pro features. The stock PCM has plenty of 5v inputs that you can wire your sensors into and log them without needing the Pro version.
