4th Gen and HP Tuners 3.6.26
Just wondering if anyone else is having issues connecting to their 4th gen with that version of HP tuners? I have a 2002 TA and its just saying failed to detect protocol. I connected to two fords with HP today with no issues so i believe the interface is good. I can connect torque and my diablosport tool to my trans am without an issue as well. Restored the car to stock with DS tool as well and it still wont connect. The vcm scanner also does not connect to the car. I emailer tech support but i figured id ask on here as well.

I have tech support working on it now. I have a feeling this won't be going the way I want it to but for now Ill stay optimistic. The serial number states 8 GM Credits and it was licensed to a GM in its history so it should have 6 GM credits left. I guess we will see. Not sure why it would pick up two Fords with no issues at all though. I even tried a second laptop using Windows 10 with no luck. I purchased it second hand from a member on here just a day or so ago so I'll see what Tech support has to say first.

Thats what i am saying too. I asked them why the interface needs to be replaced. I am still awaiting a repsonse
"Thank you for contacting Support
You can pay for the replacement interface here https://www.hptuners.com/customers/replacements.php
Just let me know once payment has been sent & when the interface has been sent in so I can coordinate with our shipping manager so we can get you one out as quickly as possible."
thats all i got after showing them the license.dat and explaining that i bought second hand.

I'd try to get my money back from the seller or see if i could get them to pay that $239 to HP Tuners if they knowingly sold it to you damaged.

As per HP:
"Fords use the VPP chip on the interface to communicate, early GM's such as this one us the VPW chip on the interface so being able to read a ford but not this GM is a clear sign that the VPW chip in the interface has failed."
i pm'd the seller requesting an even 200 and well call it even. We will see what he says.

I had a similar issue. I ended up sending my box in and they repaired the board by replacing the chip. Total bill was about $100. Not sure what chip went bad on mine, its been too long ago.

Seller was a stand up guy. Refunded $206 as per our agreement and because i wanted him to make some money on the deal as that is only fair. I paid $302 to HP tuners to upgrade it to a pro unit. So all on all, had to spend $100 bucks more. Not the end of the world.

Pro unit is DEFIANTLY worth it IMO! Takes a little learning to now how to load your scanner setup but its nice if you leave it in the car or take it with you as a just in case. In the event you have some unforseen issue, you can connect and hit record, and you will have a scan data recorded right then. Its also nice that you can connect your wideband and say, fuel pressure or whatever other "extra" data you setup. A Must have on a turbo car IMO.

So here is my experience. I received the new box and of course, it still does the exact same thing. My brain has been telling me the whole time that it wasn't the box but i didn't listen. I just took tech's advice, shame on me. So i email them back and they give me the same old nonsense when someone doesn't know "the car has a wiring issue". But then they follow that with "it might be the cable". The $35 dollar cable? Probably should have started with that but fine, whatever. I asked for a pin out and they say they don't provide it and then tell me to try to bench flash etc etc. So I do a small search and find a pin out of the cable on their own damn forum. Do a continuity test and boom, VPW circuit is smoked. The end, problem solved. Overnight a cable from Summit Racing. So it brings the total cost to around $400 bucks (granted I overnighted the 35 dollar cable). Lesson learned. I should have trusted myself and did some further snooping instead of depending on them but I didn't. However, I feel they should have released that info about the cable, at least just the VPW circuit since that's the main issue. Virtually everyone has a multi meter but not everyone has a bench harness. This could have been a quick fix that turned into a debacle.

Welcome me to the world of HP tuner support.....or lack there of. LOL I bought mine brand new and later when I had a communication issue they gave me the same type of short, nonhelpful BS. Luckily a computer super nerd took the time to get me fixed up and eventually HP helped out. After spending such an amount of money on something, I felt put out but it is such a useful thing to have I ain't giving it up. I just try and get more computer savvy as I go.
