08 lq4 in 2002 chevy silverado 2500

hey guys i have a 2002 chevy silverado 2500.... i had an engine built same lq4 block but its 2008 with l92 heads and intake. i messed up and didnt know the years were different
having a shop put it in and they are saying itll take thousands of dollars to get it to run because the cam and intake manifold sensors are way different

my question is can it be tune out? should i get a 08 computer? 08 harness?
i would think it could be tuned out to read the cam the right way and the intake pressure but i am no expert with ecus and sensors etc

sorry for lack of knowledge any help would be greatly appreciated

LQ4's weren't made in 2008.
Where are your knock sensors?
What color is the crank sensor plug?
Where is the cam sensor located?
There's nothing here that can't be dealt with, and it won't cost "thousands of dollars"! Go to a different shop. These guys are thieves.

What you have is an ly6. You can do a vvt delete, relocate the gen 3 knock sensors to the side of the block, cam sensor extension harness, gen 4 intake and rails, 3 to 4 bolt tb adapter and a tune.

thanks for the reply. im actually speaking for my brother and dont have much more info.

have or had ly6?
i know the new engine is a gen 3 lq4 for sure

knock sensors are in the valley
crank and camshafts in the rear of engine

he was saying the cam sensor was different or something and the computer wouldnt be able to time it right or something
he was also saying the old engine intake had a intake air pressure sensor and the new intake doesnt

pics of new engine best i have

Hard to say what you have. Could be a gen3 lq4 but it would have 317 heads and gen3 intake. Either way you need to know what you have to figure how to complete the swap.

i know what I have

gen 3 lq4
l92 heads
l92 intake manifold

the Chevy 2500 had a 6.0. Which I assumed was lq4

but for whatever reason this shop is telling me the camshaft sensor is different and the ecu won’t be able to run the engine

now I knew there would be some tuning required since it has different heads injectors and intake but I didn’t think about the intake having different sensors and I think they’re full of shit saying the camshaft sensor is different and won’t work

If the cam sensor is still in the rear, and the knock sensors in the valley, you still have a Gen III short block. The rest can be dealt with easily.
Did the shop swap the heads and intake?

brandon6.0 01-31-2019 09:01 PM

Ok let me try and clear all this up!

U have a 02 2500hd truck. U are swapping in a gen3 6.0 tht u had built with l92 heads etc which are erelavent to the swap and making it run.
(U just need tuning for the mods etc.)

Well the 6.0 u posted pics of is a gen3 for sure.
The original 6.0 from the truck was a gen3 6.0
As long as the new 6.0 has a rear cam sensor in the block, and valley cover knock sensors it will all plug and play. Just get it tuned for the upgrades!

The gen4 blocks have knock sensors on the side of the block, are 58 tooth relucter, and front cam sensor.

Where did the 2008 statement come from???

Sounds like the shop doesnt know what they are doing! That 6.0 will go right in a 02 truck!

Unless, the builder mistakenly installed a 58tooth crank! Even if so it can still be made to work!

Well you said it's a 2008 lq4 which doesn't exist

The bottom line is that you should run very far away from whatever shop you are using, as they have no idea what they are doing or talking about. On the other hand, some shops will give the "thousands of dollars" excuse just to avoid a build they don't want to do. Either way they are not going to do what you need.

gagliano7 02-11-2019 09:02 AM

That is a direct bolt in with just some tuning for the heads and manifold. The shop has no clue. What cam do you have in it?
