Default Bidirectional Scan Tool

Ok guys so here’s the scoop I recently did a transmission rebuild that ended with an issue. I was able to borrow a snap-on scan tool that had Bidirectional functionality and was able to command the transmission to shift also I could command the tcc lock up... This ( along with the help from the members here ) allowed me to narrow the problem down and fix it. I learned then and there that having a scan tool with this function was beneficial to me. So I done some checking and called around and stumbled on to autoenginuity. So I gave them a call and told them what the primary purpose for the tool would be and they said yes no problem we can do that. Well low and behold!!, yes the features are there but after trying on three different vehicles i come to the conclusion it doesn’t work. 1 vehicle gives an error about shift sequence the other just don’t do anything when a shift is commanded so I gave the company a call and they said it’s the vehicle not the tool and that the tool is just an interface. Lol really funny that’s not what was said before the purchase. So I figured that I would ask here what tool other then the $15000 snap-on that I borrowed will complete this task?

Incase your wondering 1 vehicle was a 2003 Yukon 4l60e

1 was a 2007 Chevy express van 4l80e

and a 2015 Chevy express van 6l80e

Thanks Mark

So you know, the cheapest Snap-on scanner with bi-directional control is the Ethos Edge. It's in the $2k price range.
If you're looking for something less than that (and I don't blame you) I'd look for an older, used Snap-on scanner.
Just make sure it is updated new enough to work on your vehicles. I'd probably not pay over $1k for something that can't be updated anymore.

Hptuners has quite a few bidirectional controls.
I bought mt OTC Genisys Evo5 for 1k and it has most of the bidirectional controls for nearly any model. Works great.

The X431 does pretty good on the Metric Imports, but they're far from my first choice on Domestics.
There's an Ethos Edge on EBAY right now for $1300 or so. https://www.ebay.com/itm/SNAPON-ETHO...ty!27597!US!-1

I looked up the coverage on your 2015 Express. Here's what it can do on it:
The first 3 pics are of the computers it can talk to.
The rest of the pics are of the B-Directional controls on the engine and trans.

The subscription service means you make regular payments and get every update.
Yes, you can skip updates, but not if you're on the subscription service.
Unless you're in a shop and making money with it every day, I can't think of a reason you'd need to be on a subscription.
Just update every once in a while and make sure you get the last one when they discontinue them.
