Any handheld alternative to Ls1 edit?

My work schedule and being a father make it very tough to get my computer tuned etc, so I'm wondering if anyone has had good luck with a bolt on cam car being tuned by a handheld. I do have access to a dyno. I had a Predator that just wouldn't ever work. When I finally could get the rev limiter at 6600, the speedo wouldn't calibrate. And it wasn't my lack of knowing how to do it I assure you. I had a Superchips microtuner on my last cammed 99 and a HPP3 and couldn't tell a difference.

in short, no... I have never saw anything even close. Maybe you should concider buying a mail order tune..

Crane makes a handheld that has several different cam profiles you can choose from which go up pretty large. It appears to be a solid unit from what I have read on the forums here. I haven't personally used one but if you buy a cam that matches the specs of one that it has a tune for you will probably do ok. Here is a link to crane's site to the product. You can order it from a vendor on the right.

Well. I may just have to stick with this. It's just very hard to go 40 miles to my tuner and coordinate my day off with when he can get to it. That Crane does look formidable. Maybe I'll see if I can find some threads about it. Thanks. I believe I can also have Superchips burn me a custom tune but then I don't think I can make any adjustments to it. I like the way the Crane says you can adjust the idle within 50rpm increments. First one I've seen that can do that.

here' a tutorial i made for the VHP version of the Crane programmer. http://www.stealthram.com/vhptuner.htm last i heard, you can only get the fbody/corvette tuner through VHP. read the posts from predator-z on his cam car and the tuner https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...7&page=1&pp=20

I'd need 6700 rpms and I don't have rear 02's (deleted by ls1 edit). I may just have to suck it up. Good performance isn't cheap nor easy. I should know this by now.

What rear gear ratio parameters can be programmed with this hand held? Are all ratios between 2.73 and 4.56 <and everything in between> covered? Can I re-calibrate the speedo for 3.55 gears? Has there been an update with the torque firmness settings yet with this handheld, or is it still an "On or Off" thing?

mrr23 01-23-2005 11:21 AM

doesn't cover all ratios. the closest is 3.43 you'd have to play with tire size to get it dialed in. tire size increments are every .25" starting at 24.00 and goes up to i think 31.00" and no, the shift firmness is still an on/off thing. it's something on the back burner right now. currently they are finishing up the 97-98 tuners.
