I've aquired autotap HELP!!!!!
 

I just bought Autotap from my friend. I need to know what equipment I need and where do I atain the knowlege to use this program. All I have is the disk. I understand I need a lap top, I have a Desktop but will relocate. $20 bucks......could not pass.

all you got was the software? no cable? If so you got ripped off... the software is available for download for free on autotap.com ... but it's useless w/out the autotap cable...

if you got the cable and the software, I believe you can download the instruction manual from autotap.com ... as for how to use it... it's a troubleshooting tool... you can pull codes, watch your O2s, see how much timing you're getting, see how much Knock Retard you're getting

So, its a user friendly program?

Why do they sell the program if you can download it for free? Is the cable expensive.

Since the software is useless without the cable, the cable is what you are really paying for when you buy A-tap. I would be questioning a friend that would sell you software that you can get free that is useless without the cable.

You're paying for the cable more so than the software... as for cable price, it's on autotap.com ...

200 bux for the cable, and an extra 100 for the GM Enhanced Parameters (which you really need .. you can't even scan Knock Retard w/out them) so 300 bux for the cable new... unless you can find a used one for sale (they are becoming a popular used item now... w/HP Tuners providing a scanner and tuning software in 1 for 500 bux, many have sold their autotap cables and just use HPT)

Make sure whatever you get has enhanced parameters... if you can get a Version 2 cable it's better (faster than version 1 cables)

Thanks, I have just one more question.....Can I buy the enhanced parameters like a upgrade to my CD or do I have to buy the whole package?

you have to buy the whole package because right now you don't have anything... the software is worth exactly 0.00 ... when you buy the cable it comes w/the software... so you need to buy the basic cable and the upgrade fee for the enhanced parameters ... i'm 95% sure that this functionality is cable based and not software (or something in the cable tells the software that it can be used w/enhanced parameters)

I'd go back to your friend and ask for your 20 bux back , then buy an autotap used or new .. Basically autotap sells the cable and gives you the software (unless you go the EFI Live route, then that's an additional software upgrade)
