Read the mod mistakes thread in new ls1 owners, or do a search on hypertech. No one has anything good to say about HPP.It was something I was thinking about buying, untill I joined this site. Thorough research will save you some serious coin.

Vinci Performance sells a hand held tuner that seems pretty good, the diablo is good too but i'd look for a used one first (75 bux to unlock it, so keep that in mind w/the used price)

For the ultimate in tuning software there's flashscan and HP tuners (www.hptuners.com board sponsor for about a year now)

I've used HP Tuners software for almost a year and love it... built in scanner and tuner, full access tot he PCM, super fast reads and writes. 2 licenses included and it's not VIN locked.. you buy a license for a 2000 F-Body and you can tune ANY 2000 F-Body not just your own.

LS1 Edit was great back in the day when it was the only choice but it's past its prime now ... their scanner's been 1.0F beta for 4 or 5 months now and it's VIN locked... you buy a license for your PCM and that's it...
